Two persons including a Policeman, were injured in a gunfight between Police and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres at Moyla Khana Jhumjhumpur in Sadar upazila (sub-district) of Jessore District on April 22, reports The Independent. Police raided Moyla Khana area in morning at about 3:30 am on information that a group of JeI men were gathering to hold a meeting there. Sensing the presence of Police, Jamaat-Shibir activists opened fire on Police prompting them to fire back, said Police. Police also arrested three persons and recovered a shutter gun, one round of bullet and a sharp weapon from their possession. The others managed to escape from the spot. The arrested were identified as Mushahid- a leader of Fatepur union of ICS, Aminur Rahman and Habibullah.

Police arrested 20 suspected militants from Bapta Pilot area in Sadar sub-District of Bhola District on April 29, reports The Independent. Police said acting on a tip-off, they arrested the members of ‘Kalema Dawat’ for their suspicious movement in the area. Six of the arrestees were identified as Abdul Baki, Maulana Akram Hossain, Abdus Salam, Abdur Razzq, Masum Hawlader and Mohammad Belal. They hail from different Districts including Bhola, Sirajganj and Noakhali. The arrestees said they are followers of ‘Kalema Dawat’ 'chief' Majid Professor. The Joint Forces arrested at least 97 Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and JeI-ICS cadres in drives in 9 Districts across the country on January 17, reports New Age. In Jaipurhat District, Joint Forces arrested 25 activists BNP and JeI on charge of subversive activities at four sub-Districts. In Jessore District, the joint forces arrested at least 15 BNP and JeI activists in separate drives in eight sub-Districts accused in different cases connected to violence in recent political programmes. The arrestees were identified as JMB chief coordinator Abdun Noor and cadres Noor Islam Sagor, Nuruzzaman Arif, Abul Kalam Azad and Faruk Ahmed. Two War Crimes suspects were arrested in a bomb blast and killing case at Shibganj sub-District in Chapainawabganj District on September 17, reports The Daily Star. The suspects are Mahidur Rahman (84) and Afsar Hossain alias Chutu (65). Police arrested Mahidur and Afsar in connection with the bomb blast at Shaheed Minar in the Shibganj sub-District headquarters on March 26 that killed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) activist Asaduzzaman Sujon and injured three other people. Sujon was allegedly carrying crude bombs that exploded at the Shaheed Minar when people were placing wreaths at it. Police later filed the bomb blast and killing case accusing 151 persons.
