A team of Rapid Action Battalion-7 (RAB-7) conducted several drives in Kotwali, Panchlaish and Akbar Shah areas of Chittagong city and arrested Mozaher Hossain Miah, (35), Sabbir Ahmed Muhib, 23, Kamal Uddin Mustafa, 24, and Ashraf Ali Adnan, (25), of newly formed militant group, Shaeed Hamja Brigade, reports Daily Star. RAB-7 also recovered five AK-22 rifles, five pistols, one smooth bore breech loading rifle, a gun, 10 magazines of AK-22, five magazines of the pistols, and 3,668 bullets at a hotel room and a house in Chittagong in this connection. Mozaher is an arms dealer and he used to sell arms to the militants, the Lt Col claimed, adding that the arms and ammunitions were being used for training. The AK-22 rifles were made in China and the pistols were from India, he said. The arms were smuggled in through Comilla border from India. During their investigation, the RAB learnt that the arrestees were first trained in classrooms of a madrasa (a college for Islamic instruction) of Hathazari upazila (sub-District) and then they were given militant training in a hilly area of Banshkhali upazila (sub-District).

The arrestees were identified as Babul Sarker and Mintu Prodhan. Police said that the arrestees were involved in a militant group and earlier they worked for Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). The arrestees are Hazi Amjad Ali (88) and Riaz Uddin Fakir (65). Police said that Amjad Ali was the advisor of Razakar in Phulbaria while Riaz Uddin was an Al-Badr commander. Superintendent of Police (SP) of the District Emran Hossain said on secret information a team of Police conducted a drive in the area where a group of JeI leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting on February 1 evening. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the JeI men hurled several crude bombs towards the law enforcers, forcing them to open fire that injured Saidul. Saidul was rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital under Police custody where he succumbed to his injures on February 2.

Three persons were killed and many others were injured during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance's countrywide blockade on February 4, reports The Daily Star. In Dhaka city, two youths were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jatrabari area. The identities of the youths, aged between 25 and 30, could not be confirmed. RAB officials said that when a team of RAB was patrolling in Jatrabari area all of a sudden, brick chunks were hurled at the RAB vehicle. Several crude bombs went off on the road and gun shots were fired at the team, forcing the law enforcers to open fire on the thugs. Later, RAB found two bullet-hit people lying in a pool of blood there. One gun, two petrol bombs and eight crude bombs were recovered from the spot. In another incident, Rashedul (25), who had suffered 80 percent burn injuries on February 3 gruesome firebomb attack on a bus in Comilla District died at the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Separately, a suspected bomber, Kawsar Khan was injured when Police shot for blasting crude bombs at Amtoli in Shahjahanpur area. Police said they fired three shots at Kawsar when he was fleeing the area after exploding two crude bombs. Kawsar received bullets in his legs. In Gazipur District, pickets firebombed a passenger bus in Noujani area burning at least five including a child. The victims are Rakib (12), Mohammad Sabuj (20), Kamrul Hasan (28), Jahangir Hossain (42) and Mariam Akter Rupa (7). In Chittagong District, two rickshaw pullers were injured as suspected blockade supporters blasted crude bombs. Police said that Mehmud confessed to them of being a member of ISI. Mehmud entered Bangladesh on November 7, 2014, with an e-visa for employment or service with three months validity. On November 19, 2014, he took a job at Sreepur's Unilance Textile of Gazipur District as an electric engineer. On February 15, 2015, he extended his visa which expired on May 6, 2015. Since then he had been staying in the country illegally. Police on May 30 arrested Abdullah Al Galib (27), “Assistant Coordinator” of Islamic State (IS) in Bangladesh from Baridhara area of Dhaka city, reports The Daily Star. Police arrested Galib with hundreds of training videos for Islamist militants and also a large number of books translated into Bangla on al-Qaeda and Islamic State. Police said that Galib has also launched a new militant organization called “Jund At-Tawheed Wal Khilafah”. The new militant group had plans to smuggle arms into Bangladesh with the help of Islamic State and send their operatives to Iraq and Syria to join the jihad led by the global organisation.
