Police also recovered two kilograms of a white powder, which is yet to be identified. Police claimed that among those arrested, six were top-level leaders of the outfit, including two alleged militant trainers who are also policy-makers of the group. Police said it was their monthly gathering, where several top leaders went there to indoctrinate the youth. Police sources said a large number of trained HuT militants are active in Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jhenidah of Khulna division. Other sources said at least 1200 trained cadres of the outfit are active in the region. Most of them are madrassa (seminary) students belonging to poor families and Imams of mosques. Press Trust of India reports that Akbar Hossain Khan, a Field Officer with the National Security Intelligence, was arrested on April 19 in connection with the April 2004 seizure of 10 truckloads of arms meant for the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). Bangladesh authorities have revived investigations into the seizures case recently. A Criminal Investigation Department official said that Akbar Hossain Khan "is now being interrogated after he was remanded in custody for two days under a court order following his arrest." The investigations have revealed that Hossain had hired the 10 trucks under a fake name to carry the weapons. Investigators had earlier questioned 26 Navy officials, who were serving at that time in Coastguard on deputation. Officials said there was a deliberate attempt on the part of the then administration under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government to suppress facts in the case.

Detained LeT operatives and Indian nationals - Mufti Obaidullah and Moulana Mohammad Mansur Ali - revealed that besides the local chapter of the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI-B), some political leaders have been helping the Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) to operate in Bangladesh. Investigators are now working to gather more about them, said sources in the intelligence and security agencies. Officials involved in the ongoing crackdown on militants said they have information that some politicians might have been sheltering LeT cadres as per secret deals with the terrorist group. Though the Security Forces had detained several LeT operatives in the past, they formally admitted the outfit's existence in Bangladesh only in July 2009 after the Detective Branch of Police arrested Obaidullah and Mansur.

The ‘chairman’ of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Arabinda Rajkhowa and ‘deputy commander-in-chief’ Raju Baruah were arrested in Dhaka on December 2, according to Assam Tribune. Both the ULFA leaders are likely to be handed over to India, highly placed official sources said. The sources said that Rajkhowa, whose movements were under scanner of the Security Forces of Bangladesh since September 2009, was picked up from a house in the suburbs of Dhaka city along with a few of his associates. Sources said that the Government of Bangladesh already intimated India about the detention of Rajkhowa and he is likely to be handed over to India. Bangladesh has not registered any case against Rajkhowa and he will be handed over to India as a part of the assurance to hand over militant leaders of India taking shelter in Bangladesh for years. Official sources said that intelligence inputs indicated detention of the ‘deputy commander-in-chief’ of the ULFA Raju Baruah. “The Government of Bangladesh is yet to confirm the detention of Raju Baruah. The Government of Bangladesh only informed India that the ULFA Chairman and a few others were detained. But Indian intelligence agencies managed to obtain reports confirming the detention of Raju Baruah,” sources added. The report adds that the ULFA ‘chairman’ Arabinda Rajkhowa will fly to Delhi after he is “pushed back” to Tripura from Bangladesh.

The ‘foreign secretary’ Sashadhar Choudhury and ‘finance secretary’ Chitraban Hazarika of the Indian terrorist outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were arrested by intelligence officials from the Sector 3 area of Dhaka in the mid-night of November 1, according to Sentinel. Reports indicate that following confirmation of detention of two top ULFA leaders by Bangladesh, India on November 5 opened diplomatic channels to get them back into the country, adds Assam Tribune. The ‘deputy commander-in-chief’ of ULFA, Raju Baruah, however, claimed that their two leaders were already handed over to India by Bangladesh. Without naming India, Raju Baruah told a section of media in Assam through e-mail or telephonic talk that Bangladeshi intelligence officials arrested the duo from the Sector 3 area in Dhaka and handed them over to the "enemy". Raju Baruah further said that Bangladesh Police had raided some other areas in Dhaka where, they believed, the ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa was hiding. He also warned Bangladesh that the sovereignty of the country would be at stake if it did not set Sashadhar and Chitraban free. Meanwhile, the Indian Home Ministry officials denied this claim made by the ULFA.

A RAB-1 team in Dhaka arrested, Meherpur AL organising Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Mukul (45), from Mirpur area. He was produced before a Meherpur court on September 7 and the court sent him to Police custody. Sources said that with the arrest of Mukul, Security Forces (SFs) seem to have started a manhunt against the outlaw godfathers in the extremist infested southwest region. A high RAB official in Khulna division told that lists of so-called 'political godfathers' are being prepared and "we will bring them to book". An unnamed RAB official said a good number of outlaw godfathers hold posts of different political parties in the region. Police said Mukul is accused in six cases filed with different Police stations in Meherpur and Jessore Districts. RAB and Police sources also said that Mukul is one of the top political leaders in southwest region who has been patronising outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) for long. Sources added that Mukul was a close aide to Janajuddha faction of the PBCP (PBCP-Janajuddha) founder Abdur Rashid Malitha Tapan alias Dada Tapan, who was first arrested from Mukul's house in 1994. During that time, he was Gangni Sub-District unit AL publicity secretary. Dada Tapan was killed in an encounter with RAB-12 in Kushtia on June 18, 2008.
