Nagaland Post reports that the long-awaited repatriation of 36,000 Bru refugees, who have been staying for the past 15 years in camps in Tripura after being displaced from their villages in Mizoram, would resume from April 26, Union Home Minister P. The Telegraph reports that a fortnight before 669 Bru (Reang) refugees are to repatriate from Tripura to Mizoram on April 26, the bone of contention is the Mizo Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) proposal to have 1995 as the cut-off year. Political parties and NGOs like the Young Mizo Association (YMA) are insisting that only those refugees whose names appear in the 1995 electoral rolls should be allowed to return. “There will be no violence and we will welcome those refugees whose names are there in the 1995 rolls and their children,” former YMA president Lalchununga said over phone from Aizawl. “They are not our enemies after all, but the Union Home Ministry should agree to this cut-off date,” he added

Chief Minister (CM) Manik Sarkar on August 15 warned Tripura’s resurgent insurgency of imminent action unless good sense prevails soon, reports Tripura Info. The CM spoke in a terse tone that few militant cadres have feigned false surrender and have gone back to the jungles taking advantage of all benefits allowed by the government. This is very akin to treachery with the trust and goodwill of the state government, said Sarkar. “Security forces had tackle insurgency hand-in-hand with the common people in the yesteryears. Good sense should prevail among the confused youths or else the security forces will have to start similar initiatives with cooperation from the masses”, Sarkar warned.
