Commenting on the arrest, Banka Superintendent of Police (SP) Satya Prakash said acting on a tip-off a police team arrested Thakur and recovered a pistol, live cartridges, a cellphone and Maoist from him. His arrest will help curb Maoist activity in the District.

The combing operation to arrest RK, in the Andhra Pradesh Odisha border region, will continue, said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra on January 6, reports The New Indian Express. Maoist literatures, 500 bags of rice and grenades have been recovered from the encounter site. Two suspected Maoist militia members have been arrested by Police in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri District while they were crossing the river. One of them has received bullet injury and investigation is on. The blood stains found on the spot indicate the killing or injury of Maoists during exchange of fire, he added.

An ‘area commander’ of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Sonaram Sundi, was arrested from Badlagya village in West Singhbhum District on January 12, reports The Times of India. South Chhotanagpur Inspector General of Police (IG) MS Bhatia said Police also seized five rifles from the area commander. The anti-PLFI operation was started in Khunti, Simdega, Gumla and West Singhbhum Districts on January 8. Police said the PLFI has threatened with a day-long state wide bandh (shut down strike) if the search operation was not called off.

In a joint combing operation on January 12, Bihar Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel arrested four Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC)- a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), cadres identified as Jokham Singh, Singhasas Yadav, Mohammad Amaluddin and Salya, from Rohtas District and recovered a huge cache of arms, reports The Business Standard. The Security Forces (SFs) recovered two .315 rifles, 13 single barrel guns, a pistol, 78 bullets, two sacks of gunpowder, 55 batteries used in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 21 splitters used in bombs and several kilogrammes of explosive ammonium nitrate on the basis of interrogation of the arrested persons. Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the arrests were made after a two-day-long combing operation in the hilly and forest tracts of the District. The arrested persons are part of the troupe of Ajay Rajbhar of TPC.

Three suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed during a three hour long encounter with Security Forces (SFs) at Bukar village under Chauparan Police Station area in Hazaribag District on January 12, reports The Times of India. Police have recovered the three dead bodies along with three rifles, a huge cache of explosives and Maoist literature from the spot. Police is yet to identify the dead bodies. Jharkhand Police spokesperson Anurag Gupta confirmed the incident.

High powered explosive materials, two big landmines, five thousand metres of electric wires, life saving drugs, khaki uniforms, woollens, liquids used for landmines explosion in big jar besides many other chemicals, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) literatures and computerized guidelines for the "Red Army" of the Maoists detailing the war tactics in the event of an encounter with the Police, were seized by the police during a three-day joint operation against the Maoists involving Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Task Force (STF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and District Police, reports The Times of India on February 22. Displaying the seizure from the Naxal hideouts from the districts of Munger, Lakhisarai and Jamui before the media in the evening of February 21, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Munger range, Sharveshwar Prasad Shukla, accompanied by Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Varun Kumar Sinha, said three hard-core Maoists, including Mithu Koda, resident of Kumartari village under Haveli Kharagpur police station; Monu Koda, resident of Barmasiya village under Haveli Kharagpur police station; and Banu Koda, resident of Machchi tola in Lakhisarai District were arrested during the search operations while some top Maoist leaders managed to escape taking advantage of the 1,400ft mountain top. The DIG said fifty landmines laid by the Maoists on the hill to blow up the approaching CRPF battalion were also destroyed by the police. At least half a dozen training camps of the Maoists were destroyed, the SP said, adding that a 6x6 sq ft banner with 'Laal Salam to Lenin, Stalin and Mao' printed on it, was also seized.

Although Maoists seem to have deserted Jhumra, their arms and ammunitions are still being recovered from different spots across the jungles by a CRPF 26 battalion team, headed by commandant, Sanjay Kumar. The search team, while scouring the jungle, discovered a steel trunk containing explosives and weapons, after being tipped off about the Maoist hideout. "We conducted a check at the spot with metal detectors. Taking precautionary measures, we discovered a huge steel trunk hidden underground," said Kumar. When the trunk was opened they found 14 country made carbines, 10 rifles of different bores, detonators, m-seal and several live cartridges. Much to the CRPF team's surprise, they also found a grenade projector and a highly explosive bomb. Pahan was in-charge of PLFI activities in Murhu, Torpa and Khunti blocks from where he collected levies from contractors to fund the outfit's war against the State. A close aide of PLFI top leader Jidan Gudiya, Pahan had succeeded Murhu-Torpa-Khunti area commander Shiv Gudiya around one year ago when he was killed in an encounter. A source said Police had gathered intelligence that Pahan with his men was supposed to come to Kunjla village on April 9 night to kill a villager PLFI considered police informer. "A police team raided the village and encircled Pahan, who was with six armed men, before he could reach his target. He opened fire on policemen when they asked him to surrender. In retaliatory fire Pahan was killed while his men escaped," Police claimed. Police arrested one of the extremists who laid down arms during the gun-battle. The Maoists, however, tried to escape by firing on the SFs who returned the fire in which a Maoist sustained injuries. The injured Maoist was among the eight arrested. "None of our officers got injured in the mission. We have been on mission for four days during which we interrogated and arrested few people. The gun-battle took place in the forests near Matwal village under Mardapal Police Station limits when a team of District Police was carrying out a search operation in the wee hours on Thursday (April 23), Kondagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Meena said. On sensing Police near the village, a group of armed rebels indiscriminately fired at them following which the Security Force (SF) personnel retaliated. However, the ultras soon fled to the dense forest on finding SF personnel zeroing-in on them. Acting on a tip-off that Maoist ‘sub-zonal commander’ Dipakji was camping in the dense forests of Palkot, special teams, comprising State Police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, were formed to corner the squad from all sides. As the Security Forces (SFs) neared the forests, the Maoists opened fire. The SFs also retaliated, forcing the Maoists to flee, leaving behind a huge quantity of ammunition. Several joint teams of Special Task Force (STF), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Force were on a special anti-Naxal [Left wing Extremism (LWE)] operation in forests of Mirtoor, Jangla and Gangaloor Police Station limits. While cordoning off Mirtoor region, SF personnel spotted a Naxal camp near Bechapal village following which they started encircling the spot. Some armed insurgents seeing the SF personnel opened indiscriminate firing at them, triggering a gun-fight between both sides, a senior Police official said. Later, during search of the spot, body of a woman Maoist in uniform was found. One wireless set, two hand grenades, one 315 bore rifle and other materials were also seized from the spot, the officer said. The deceased Maoist cadre will be identified once the SFs will reach back to their camp along with the body, the official added.

Commenting on the civilian killing, Arun Kumar Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ranchi Range said a team of District Police and Jharkhand Armed Police commandos were reconnoitring the Katkahi area when the Maoists opened fire from atop a small hill. "The civilian was not on the side of the Maoists during the encounter. It seems that a stray bullet from the Maoists side hit him," he added. Police also found one 303 rifle, one 30-06 Springfield and four 315 regular rifles besides over 30 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), several hand grenades, 250 rounds live bullets and other Maoist materials from the site. The arrest of the Maoist leader attains importance in view of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s bus travel in Husnabad region on July 4 to participate in the Haritha Haaram programme. Superintendent of Police (SP) D. Joel Davis said that Musaki was associated with the Maoists since 2007. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a ‘deputy dalam commander’. The Security Force (SF) personnel on July 11 arrested two Maoist supporters carrying cash collected from a contractor in the form of levy to hand over to Maoist leader Ranjit Pal alias Rahul, who was the prime accused in the killing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Member of Parliament (MP) Sunil Mahato. According to Police, acting on a tip off, led a search operation in the Ghatshila sub-division and intercepted two persons at Chengoda between Ghatshila and Kadaduba, when they were about to enter the jungles to hand over the levy amount of INR 250,000 to Rahul. The subsequent search led the SF personnel to recover the cash, one country-made pistol, three live cartridges and Maoist literature. The SF personnel also seized the motorcycle they were travelling on and two mobile phones. The arrested Maoist supporters were identified as Kalachand Pal and Simanta Pal, both residents of Mahatam village under Ghatshila Police Station limits, he said. However, the motive of the accused behind procuring and hoarding the huge quantities of explosives is not clear yet. Pandu was in the team of Kauleshwari zone regional commander Indal Bhokta. Acting on an anonymous tip-off regarding Pandu’s squad wandering in areas under Hunterganj Police Station on July 25, Chatra SP SK Jha led a search operation with a team of district police forces and Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) 190 battalion on the same night for apprehending the extremists. In the forests near Herenchatwa, the search party came across Pandu who tried to evade them, but was caught. After interrogating the detained extremists, Chatra Police unearthed IEDs planted in the area. Three country-made rifles, a rifle with three magazines, 17 live cartridges, 16 detonators, two pouches, a pithoo and some medicines have also been recovered. The duo might have been killed in the exchange of fire between the Security Forces (SFs) and the Maoists on July 26, Police said. SFs also recovered three rifles, including a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), two tiffin bombs with wires, three rounds of ammunition, several empty cartridges and medicines from the dense forest. "The bodies of the middle-aged man and woman were recovered by the Police during the search operation. Some more ultras are suspected to have sustained injuries in the encounter," said K.V. Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjiv Marik confirmed the encounter. Based on intelligence reports that Maoists were holding a meeting at the remote spot as part of their continuing martyrs’ week observation, a team of security personnel that included personnel of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) raided the area. When the Maoists challenged the security personnel through firing, the Police team retaliated leading to the killing of three Maoists and destruction of their camp. Rest escaped into the jungle. No injury or damages to the security forces was reported. Three country-made guns, one INSAS rifle, a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), live ammunition, grenades, materials of Maoist use including kitbags and Maoist literature were seized from the spot where the ultras were holding the camp.It was suspected that around 20 Naxalites were there in the camp when the encounter took place. Search operation is on. It is suspected that some more Maoists may have been injured in the incident. Identity of slain Maoists has not been ascertained.

In the 30 minute long encounter the first Maoist bullet instantly killed Police driver Dhumul Siwaiya after which SSP Kumar's team retaliated, killing Bundu-Tamar ‘area commander’ Chandan alias Kalika Munda and reportedly injuring two more. A bullet in the crossfire grazed SSP Kumar's right arm while flying shrapnel caused his chest to bleed. Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) K.L. Dhruv said that the skirmish took place in the forests of Bijapur Police Station area while a joint team of security personnel was out on a search operation. Acting on a tip-off about a large group of Maoists gathering in the region, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and District Force was rushed towards Munga, Sawnar, Mankeli and Korma villages of the District. While cordoning off the forest area between Mankeli and Munga, a group of Maoists opened fire, prompting SFs to retaliate. "Bow and arrows, bags, Maoist banners, posters, pamphlets, literature, electric wire and torches besides items of daily use were seized in large quantities from the spot," he added.

Senior police officials claimed that it was the first ever recovery of any Maoist dump explosives in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s home District Kawardha which has never witnessed any Maoist incidents. The IEDs were packed in containers and were recovered from a dense forest stretch falling in limits of Rengakhar Police Station, Kawardha Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Bhagat said. “During the course of search, police personnel recovered as many as eight IEDs totaling around 15 kilograms, detonators, batteries and other stuffs from two Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE]-dumps,” informed Bhagat.

It is suspected that Karimnagar- Khammam-Warangal (KKW) Maoist party secretary Damodar and several others managed to escape from the spot. Police recovered two weapons – one .303 and a carbine and several kit bags —from the scene. Meanwhile, the parents of Sruthi, Sudarshanam and Rama Devi, alleged that their daughter was killed in a fake encounter. They told the media that their daughter was arrested, tortured and killed in a cruel manner by the Police. “She joined the Maoists to achieve people’s Telangana and to fight for the poor Adivasis. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Ministers and the police should own responsibility for her death,” Sudarshanam said. However, the parents of Vidyasagar Reddy alias Sagar remained silent over the death of their son. Sagar, who completed tenth class, used to work as a car driver and worked with a private seeds company before joining the Maoist party just one month back, the parents said.

The total haul included seven live grenades, four single barrel muzzle loading rifles, motor, weighing machine, recoil springs for use in manufacturing of guns, huge quantity of tools for use in manufacturing of guns, explosives and splinter, gelatine, cortex and electric wire, explosive powder, detonators, tiffin cases and batteries were seized. Besides, four tiffin bombs each weighing 5 kg, four pressure mines and Maoist uniforms and literature were also recovered. Sources said that the unit was being run by the technical unit of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), led by Ram Krishna alias RK. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Subhra Munda, was arrested while few others managed to escape during a joint combing operation of Security Forces (SFs) at Baskatwa forest in Gaya District on September 18, reports The Business Standard. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said after getting information that some Maoists were camping in the forest, a joint team of SFs cordoned off the area and launched search operation. At least 200 rounds of fire were exchanged during the operation. The SSP added the exchange of firing continued till September 18. Over 12 Maoists were arrested and a huge quantity of explosives was seized during operations in the past 24 hours. Over 250 CPMF companies have arrived in the state and more troops are likely to reach next week. Personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been sent to Maoist-hit Districts to cooperate with the state Police in the pre-election operations. Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Begusarai and Khagaria, where votes would be cast on October 12, are areas dominated by the rebels.

The Police said the explosives were sent to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). “We have seized 750 kg of Gelatin, 1,000 kg of Ammonium Nitrate, a big bundle of cardex wire, eight fake number plates of four-wheelers and three cars being used to supply the material to Maoists,” S.R.P. Kalluri, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar Range, said in a statement. Police recovered around three quintals of explosive in semi-liquid form at Koraput District on September 25, and arrested a person for transporting them in an SUV, reports The Times of India. The arrested has been identified as Subala Choudhury, a resident of Chhattisgarh, said Police. Police said on September 16, Choudhury lodged a complaint in Koraput Town Police Station alleging that his SUV had been stolen. During search, the vehicle was found with the explosives in a forested area near Tota Ambaguda village, a few kilometers from Koraput, Police said. During interrogation Choudhury admitted to taking the explosive from Semiliguda. He works as a journalist for a vernacular daily in Chhattisgarh. "Choudhury said he was taking the explosive to Jagdalpur to sell it to some traders to be used in mining activities. However, investigation is on to find out whether there is any Maoist [Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)] link," Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), Koraput town Police Station, B N Korkora said. Police also arrested the person, who sold the explosive to Choudhury.

The joint squad of Security Force (SF) personnel engaged in anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] exercise had gunfight with insurgents in restive forest patch close to Pushnar village falling under limits of Gangaloor Police Station during morning hours, said Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Indira Kalyan Elesela. Two rebels were gunned down in the encounter and Police personnel have also recovered the bodies of slain Naxals, said Elesela, adding that two firearms and some other articles were also recovered from the encounter spot. “The probability of injury on the Naxal side is higher as security personnel have recovered around 18 foot-wears from the encounter spot,” said Elesela.
