Five cadres of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested from the Tandwa Police Station area in Chatra District of Jharkhand on January 7, reports latestly.com. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan said a 'sub-zonal commander' identified as Adesh Kumar Ganjhu alias Prabhakar Ji, wanted in several cases of arson and extortion in the Tandwa coalfield area, was among the five arrestees. The other four were identified as Upendra Kumar Ganjhu alias Bhola, Laldev Kumar Ganjhu, Pintu Kumar Ganjhu and Rajesh Kumar Ganjhu. Arms and ammunition were also seized from them. Among these were a rifle, two pistols, 14 live cartridges, a knife, and pamphlets of the banned organisation, the SP said.

The joint team of Security Forces (SFs), consisting of Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards (DRG), recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in between Danteshpuram and Korajguda in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 11, reports The Free Press Journal. The SF team recovered two Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL), 12 bolt guns, one bird hunting rifle, 16 BGL cells, 24 BGL cartridges, three backpacks, a magazine pouch, one bundle of red cloth, and other daily use items, including banned Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] literature. The Maoists escaped deep into the jungle, seeing the Police team approaching their location, Sukma Police said.

The Security Forces (SFs) thwarted potential subversive activities by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) by recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing seven kilogrammes in the forest and hilly areas around the Meralgada village under the Goilkera Police Station area in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on January 11, reports The Avenue Mail. A joint operation team comprising Chaibasa Police, Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 209 Bn, 203 Bn, 205 Bn, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF 60, 197, 157, 174, 193, 134, launched the combing operation following information about the presence of top leaders of the CPI-Maoist outfit, including Misir Besra, Anmel, Maechhu, Chaman, Kande, Ajay Mahta, Sagden Angriya, and Ashwin, along with their squad members, in the Kolhan area. Later, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) diffused the IED safely.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘militia’ (people’s army of the Maoists) ‘commander’, identified as Toya Potam alias Somlu (30), carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, was killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) during an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation in a forest near Pusnar village under Gangalur Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 12, reports NDTV. "Intelligence inputs were received about the presence of senior Naxalites, including Gagalurarea committee secretary Dinesh Modiyam, and some 20–25 armed ultras cadres in Pusnar forest. In the ensuing gunfight, Naxalite Toya Potam alias Somlu (30), was killed," a Police official said. "Potam carried a reward of ₹ 1 lakh and was the militia commander of the outlawed Maoist organization. Four warrants were pending against him. He was involved in acts of murder, attacks on security forces, etc.," the official said, adding that arms, explosives, and other items have been recovered from the site.

Security Forces (SFs) exchanged fire with the cadres of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Angarha Forest in Kunda in Chatra District of Jharkhand on January 15, reports Devdiscourse. The TSPC cadres managed to escape from the spot after the rebels realised that they could be overpowered by the joint team of the District Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and personnel of the Special Forces Jaguar, Chatra Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan said. ''The forest area has been cordoned off, and the operation is going on. Three firearms were recovered from the spot,'' the SP added.

A gunfight took place between Security Forces (SFs) and cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the hills between Takilkot and Binagunda villages in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on January 16, reports The Print. A makeshift Maoist unit that manufactured Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs) was demolished during the operation. A Bipod Grenade Launcher, 14 BGL shells, two air rifles, two muzzle-loading weapons, three INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) magazines, a telescope, two generators, Maoist uniforms, and food materials in huge quantities were also recovered. “Given the amount of arms and ammunition recovered, it seems that the Maoists had hidden these things with the aim to cause damage to security forces, citizens and public property,” Bastar Police said.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp was busted and a huge quantity of explosive materials and ammunition seized by Security Forces (SFs) following an exchange of fire with a group of Maoists in the Budhakhol Forest area in Boudh District of Odisha on January 17, reports odishabytes.com. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Maoists, the combing team launched a search operation in the forest. On seeing the force movement, the Maoists opened fire, and the security personnel fired back in self-defense. Following a brief gunbattle, the Maoists fled the site. During the search of the area, a huge cache of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), landmines, electric wires, and other explosives were seized from the spot. Some batteries, Maoist uniforms and literature, medicines, and other items were also recovered from the camp.

Yellandu Police arrested seven Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sympathisers, identified as Jedipeti Ramesh of Yellandu, Sunnam Kana, Sunnam Ganga, and Madakam Laccha of Malkangiri District, Odisha, B Narasimha of Karepally, Muhammad Yakub Pasha alias Bambula Pasha of Mahabubabad town, and Alakunta Venkanna Mudigonda in Khammam District, and seized a huge cache of explosive material from them in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on January 19, reports Telangana Today. Circle Inspector (CI), P Karunakar, informed that the accused were supplying explosive material to Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs]. Police recovered 400 gelatin sticks, 1000 detonators, three cordex wire bundles, and a five-metre safety fuse. A case was registered against them at Yellandu Police Station.

The exchange of fire lasted for around an hour, forcing more than 30 Maoists to flee from the spot. A senior Police officer said the ultras, about 25 to 30 in numbers belonging to the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division of the CPI-Maoist, fled away from the spot, leaving behind their few camp articles and one sophisticated weapon. It is suspected that a few Maoists have sustained injuries, he added. Police said the 9mm carbine appeared to have been issued by the government to Security Forces (SFs) for use in Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] zones. “This is crucial evidence that indicates those arrested were part of a group that attacked the security forces. Two magazines, 20 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, Rs 21,000 in cash, a laptop, SD cards, card readers, organizational literature, and magazines and letters written by purported CPI (Maoist) leaders have been seized,” said STF joint Commissioner of Police Solomon V. Nesakumar. Acting on a tip-off about Maoists returning in a tractor after celebrating Bhumkal Diwas in Peediya and Hallur, an operation was launched. "While the combing operation was underway, an exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the Maoists at around 8.30 a.m. on Friday [February 23]. Following the gun battle, our team searched the area and seized a number of Maoist articles.” Meena informed me that the entire Maoist camp was destroyed in the operation, but there were no casualties. Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of a large group of 40–50 Maoists in Bade Tungali and Chhote Tungali villages under the Jangla Police Station area, a joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was set to intercept the Maoists. The intel said there were some top Maoists in the group, including ‘platoon commander’ Prashant of West Bastar Division's Company No. 2, Matwada Local organisation squad (LOS) ‘commander’ Anil Punem and Bhairamgarh Area Janathana Sarkar (Peoples Government) ‘president’ ‘area committee member (ACM)’ Rajesh. Woman Maoist Ram Bai was arrested from a forest near Jarpalli village under Pamed Police Station limits by the local Police, 204 battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), and 151 battalion of CRPF, Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar Yadav said. "The team was out on an anti-Naxal operation in the Jarpalli and Aempur areas. Ram Bai is the president of the Maoist front organisation Kamlapur Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan (KAMS) and has a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head. We seized the cooker bomb, detonating cord, and pamphlets related to the Maoists' tactical counter offensive campaign (TCOC) from her," the SP said. Five Maoists were arrested in a separate operation from Jangla, Yadav said. Those arrested were identified as Tunesh Lakra alias Ravi and Ram Lakra (40), both members of the banned outfit Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), and their four associates, Ranjeet Mahto, Herman Kumar, Gulam Sahjada (21) and Tabassum Ahmad (27), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Surguja Range, Ankit Garg said. One AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 90 live rounds, Maoist uniforms, and literature were recovered from their possession, he said. Lakra, a native of Lambo village in Jharkhand, was active as an ‘area commander’ of the JJMP on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border. Following tip off about the activities of Maoists belonging to ‘Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagabali (BGN) Division’ in Gunduri Reserve Forest and Jugsaipatna on March 14, the SFs launched a combing operation in the said areas and swooped down on the camp. Seeing the SFs marching towards them, the ultras stepped back and entered into the deep of the forest. Munna has been working for the Maoist Party since 2004 and served as a Maoist battalion member under the leadership of Madvi Hidma alias Santhosh, from 2011 to 2022. He carried an INR 500,000 reward against him in Chhattisgarh. Peddabbai has been working as a courier for the past three years for the Maoist 1st battalion in Chhattisgarh. Acting on information about the presence of 20 to 25 Maoists in the Ekavari Forest area, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF), Gariabandh District Reserve Guard (DRG), Dhamtari DRG, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 211 battalion launched a search operation in the area. Seeing the SFs, the Maoists started firing, resulting in an exchange of fire between the SFs and Maoists. Seeing the SFs overpowering them, the Maoists fled from the spot by taking cover of the forest. During the search, SFs recovered a gun, Maoist uniform, and daily useful items of Maoists from the spot. Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Kalyan Elesela said, “Senior Maoist commanders Shankar Rao and Lalita were among those killed, and they carried a cash bounty of Rs 25 lakh [INR 2.5 million] each. Another cadre, Vinod Gawde, who was active in Rajnandgaon and the state bordering regions of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, was also killed in the biggest encounter ever. Gawde carried a Rs 10 lakh [INR 1 million] bounty on his head.” Three security personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and District Reserve Guards (DRG) also sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. Security personnel recovered three powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during an anti-Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) operation launched in the Jimki Ikir village under Tonto Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on April 24, reports NDTV. "The security personnel were carrying out an intensified operation jointly in various villages within the limits of Goilkera and Tonto police stations today when they detected three IEDs planted by banned CPI (Maoists) to target them in a forest near Jimki Ikir village within the limits of the Tonto police station," Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar, said. Police on April 25 killed two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in an encounter during a search operation in the Parhel Reserve Forest area in Boudh District of Odisha, reports argusenglish.in. Following a tip-off about the presence of 40 to 50 ultras, the personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG), an elite commando unit of Odisha Police, launched a search operation in the Parhel Reserve Forest early on April 25 morning. The extremists opened fire after seeing the security personnel. Director of intelligence, Soumendra Priyadarshi, said the bodies of two Maoist cadres were recovered by the elite anti-naxal force special operations group after an exchange of fire with a group of Maoists in the Parhel reserve forest area of Boudh District. “The deceased were identified as Sunil and Santu, both party members, and both belong to the 8th Company of Maoists. Sunil is originally from Sukma, and Santu is from Bijapur in Chhattisgarh,” said the Police. Police have so far seized arms, grenades, and other incriminating articles.
