The Uttar Pradesh police chief said the terrorists were on a suicide mission in the State. They were shot dead while on their way to Faizabad. A red alert has been sounded in Malkangiri and its neighbouring areas in the aftermath of the attack by left-wing extremists, Naxalites of the People’s War Group (PWG) on police stations in the area on August 9. Six police personnel and two Naxalites were killed in the attacks. The police have intensified patrolling with the assistance of Khammam district police of Andhra Pradesh and Dantewad district police of Chhatisgarh to check infiltration of Naxals. An AK-47 assault rifle, some ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from the possession of the deceased terrorist. Official sources said that he was a Myanmar trained terrorist and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert. He was also responsible for blowing up an Army truck on September 21, 2001, in which three Army personnel were killed.
