On April 1, acting on the information provided by an arrested Kuki National Front (KNF) cadre, the police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition belonging to the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and KNF from Khongsai Veng under Porompat police station in the Imphal East district. The cache included 74 electronic detonators, 75 ordinary detonators, a .38 pistol with one magazine, and 16 rounds of .38 ammunition, two 30 mm anti-aircraft shells, 169 rounds of .303 rifles, communication devices, nametags and badges of the outfits. Three terrorists of the UNLF and KNF were also arrested subsequent to the recovery.

Official sources in Pulwama said that one pistol and a self-loading rifle, which had been snatched by Jaish cadres during a bank robbery at Imam Sahib, Shopian, last year, were recovered from the incident site. According to reports, illegal arms factories are flourishing in the Naxalite-affected districts of Bihar like Jehanabad, Gaya and Nalanda. Official sources said that the incident occurred as the KYKL cadres ambushed a convoy of the Assam Rifles moving towards Kakching. The victims were travelling in a truck that was following the convoy. On August 31, Jaipal Tripura, an ‘area commander’ of the Biswamohan Debbarma faction of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was killed in an encounter with the security forces (SFs) at Naitongcherra under Manu police station in the Dhalai district. The encounter occurred when SFs raided a terrorist hideout in Naitongcherra. A rifle and other incriminating materials were recovered from the hideout. According to police sources, Jaipal was wanted in connection with several cases of murder, abduction, rape and extortion.

Four left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) belonging to the CPI-ML Janashakti outfit were killed in an exchange of fire with the police at Addagutta forest in the Venkatapur mandal (administrative division) of Warangal district on August 4. The police recovered a local-made gun, one service revolver, one SBBL, four 8 mm rifles and eight kitbags from the incident site. The deceased belonged to the Madhu dalam (squad) of the Janashakti group and according to unconfirmed reports, the Janashakti 'District Committee secretary' Gurrala Hamsa Reddy alias Naganna and several senior cadres of the Praja Prathighatana outfit and 25 other Naxalites escaped from the incident site. According to the Superintendent of Police, M. S. Ravindra, documents recovered from the site indicated that the Naxalites were planning to attack police stations at Venkatapur and Mulug mandal headquarters.
