Reports said that Naxalites, armed with pistols and sharp weapons, attacked three booths at Kalapani, Naharada and Bambada villages under Jamda block in Mayurbhanj district. They forcibly stamped some ballot papers and took away some more, forcing polling to be suspended. When the presiding officer at Kalapani booth resisted the Naxalites, he was assaulted and injured. The Naxalites also visited two booths at Digha and Mahisakud villages under the same block and threatened the villagers with dire consequences if they voted. The villagers did not turn up at the booths subsequently.

According to media reports a journalists’ team on a tour of Jiribam subdivision, was returning to Imphal from Jiribam when the gunmen waylaid them, near Nungba on NH-53 on August 28, and harassed them by seizing their identification cards. According to reports, the miscreants also took control of the journalists’ vehicle. The AMWJU has urged the NSCN-IM leadership to take stern action against those involved in the incident and criticised the State government for its failure to adequately safeguard the lives and properties of civilians travelling on NH-39. The AMWJU has also accused the police and Manipur Rifles personnel posted at Nungba of failing to come to the rescue of the press team despite being aware of the incident.

The Naxalites also looted two 9mm carbines from his security guards, his cellular phone and its charger. They deflated the tires of his car before fleeing. Reports said more than 30 naxalites, including 15 carrying firearms and others crowbars, and axes, were involved in the attack. The Naxalites belonged to the Krishnapatti southern squad area committee (SAC), comprising the local guerrilla squads of Naguleti dalam (squad) and Bellamkonda dalam. SAC 'secretary' Sagar reportedly led the attackers'. According to the reports, the Naxalites barged into the MLA's hose and captured him first and subsequently his guards were also asked to surrender. However, no injuries were reported in the attack. The MLA was attacked for his alleged 'collection' of money from people in the past.

A group of five armed cadres, including a woman, of the PWG barged into the Pentlavalli village branch of Andhra Bank, in Kollapur mandal (administrative unit) and decamped with Rs. 13.52 lakhs in cash. The Naxalites beta him up the bank manager who had resisted the robbery attempt and grabbed the cash from him, reportedly at gun point.
