Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) Suvez Haq said “Raju Ajmera, a kirana (grocery) shopkeeper, and Laxman Sidam, a farm labourer, both around 35 years of age, were called out by Naxals-[Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] and questioned over their alleged role as police informers. They refuted the charge, but the Naxals repeated the allegations and also beat them up. Some villagers opposed the Naxal action, but they were also beaten up. Thereafter, the Naxals took the two away from the village asked them to run and shot them from behind.”

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed two persons including a Sarpanch (head of Panchayat, village level local self-government institution) in two separate incidents in Dantewada District, Police said on May 5, reports The Pioneer. Police officials said that a group of armed Maoists raided Tikanpal village in the night of May 4 and took a few people as hostages. They took them to a nearby place and assaulted them so severely that one of them died. The person died is identified as Ayatu Budu. Other two persons sustained critical injuries. In the other incident the Maoists raided Kaurgaon village under Bangpal Police Station and dragged Sarpanch Mani Ram from his home and took him to the nearby forest. After killing him with a sharp weapon, the Maoists threw his body on the road.

A dumper engaged in a government enterprise was set ablaze by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) at Musaboni in East Singhbum District on May 7, reports IBN Live. Over a dozen Maoists arrived at the Bakra pool area and set ablaze the dumper belonging to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), Police said. The security personnel have launched a massive combing operation in the Maoist-affected Ghatsila sub-division to track down the Maoists. Confirming the report superintendent of Police (Rural) Shailendra Kumar Srivastava said that the Maoists, 15 in numbers had covered their face with clothes and each of them were carrying guns, adds The Pioneer. According to Srivastava, the squad that set ablaze the dumper was suspected to be S. Tuddu's squad which is active in Musaboni area. The Maoists had been maintaining a low profile in Ghatsila since the last few years, confining their activities to circulating inflammatory posters and pamphlets, ads The Telegraph. The incident on May 7 was the first attack in four years.
