Intelligence sources said that a large number of LTTE cadres are believed to have died. Reports add that at least three LTTE gun positions were completely destroyed during those counter attacks and SFs captured the Verugal – Eechchalanpatthu borderline villages. Parading before the media the imposter allegedly confessed that, he had extorted INR 74,000 from Industries Department. Eight Maoists descended on the shop of Venkatesh in Gandaghatti village after warning his wife and son, residing in the adjacent house, not to venture out. They assaulted the shopkeeper before firing at him from point blank range. The Maoists also set ablaze Venkatesh’s motorcycle. Amrit Goswami, a "sergeant major" in the ULFA battalion’s B Company was fatally wounded along with two of his accomplices for trying to intimidate Sajal Chakraborty, an Asom Gana Parishad leader, in his house. The militants were allegedly trying to extort money from the leader. Meanwhile, the ULFA has reiterated that it would sit for talks even in Dispur within 48 hours of the Government of India declaring its willingness to talk on restoration of sovereignty of Assam, according to Assam Tribune. The ULFA, in its mouthpiece Shwadhinata, said that the peace process ended in a deadlock because of lack of sincerity on the part of the Government of India. The outfit alleged that though it showed sincerity for a negotiated settlement, the Government started imposing new conditions, which resulted in the process ending in a deadlock. The ULFA said that Ministers and officials of the Government of India started issuing derogatory statements, while the Army always opposed the peace process. The outfit also alleged that the Army and some officials and Ministers of the Government of India always tried to stall the peace process.

Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) abducted six persons, including doctors and directors of the Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College, on November 18 and tortured them brutally for 14 hours at an unidentified location near Kamidanda in the Kavre district, according to Kantipuronline. The victims were abducted from Tilganga upon their arrival at the Tribuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. They were later freed on November 19. The victims claimed that YCL Valley chief, Sagar, and Maoist central leader Barsha Man Pun a.k.a. Ananta were directly involved in threatening and torturing the doctors and board members.
