The DIG was among 10 Police personnel and 20 civilians, who sustained splinter injuries in the explosion. According to police sources, as many as 200 houses, offices, shops and other structures, including the Police Station, were shattered and glass panes were broken due to the blast. They added that a three-wheeler, laden with at least 50 Kilograms of explosive material, seemed to have been parked minutes before DIG Anantnag left his office and was detonated by the terrorists.

According to Daily Times, a bomb exploded and three rockets were fired targeting sites in Quetta, capital of Balochistan province, while two bombs exploded in Kalat on January 3. However, no loss of life or injuries was reported. The rockets were fired at a highway police checkpoint in suburban Quetta near Hazaar Ganji at about 11:00pm (PST). Earlier, a bomb exploded behind the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education building in Quetta at about 8:00pm. Meanwhile, two bombs exploded in Kalat between 8:00pm and 9:00pm near a Frontier Corps camp and the district coordination officer’s office. Capital City Police Officer, Pervez Rafi Bhatti, said the attacks were in reaction to the 15 arrests made in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan after the Meezan Chowk bomb attack last month in which 11 people died.

According to Daily Times, several men attacked the gas field with mortars, rockets and machine guns, which lasted for more than six hours. A 36-inch diameter pipe supplying gas to the Punjab and Sindh provinces was reportedly destroyed in the attack and gas supply to Multan, Faisalabad, Muzaffarabad and other cities was suspended. Some rockets and mortars missed their target and hit the runway at Sui Airport, damaging it considerably. Two rockets also hit the Sui telephone exchange, suspending communication between Sui and Dera Bugti.

Three police personnel, a woman employee of the Revenue Department and two terrorists were killed and four persons sustained injuries during a Fidayeen (suicide squad) attack at the Divisional Commissioner's office in the capital Srinagar on February 24. According to Daily Excelsior, the two terrorists forced their entry into the Revenue Complex while throwing a grenade and firing upon the guards, at 1500 hours. Three police personnel were killed in the initial round of firing and equal number sustained injuries. Both terrorists were shot dead in the subsequent gun-battle. Around 250 people, including the Srinagar Deputy Commissioner and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Kashmir Range), were in the building at the time of the attack. This was the second Fidayeen attack of the year in Kashmir valley. A spokesperson of the Al Badr told local news agencies over telephone that cadres of his outfit had carried out the Fidayeen attack. He reportedly identified them as Irfan Bhai and Sikandar Bhai, residents of Gujarat in Pakistan.

Separately, seven explosions were reported from different parts of the Bongaigaon district. While three explosions took place near the Popragaon Power Grid Tower Line, three explosive devices were also recovered and later defused. Another timer device was recovered from the railway track between Chaprakata and Bongaigaon railway stations.
