At least 19 persons were killed and 25 others wounded, when explosions were triggered targeting migrant workers in six separate locations in the eastern districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia on January 5, reports Times of India. Sibsagar district was also part of the area where explosion caused civilian casualty, according to Assam Tribune. Assam Police suspected involvement of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). The report added that heavily armed ULFA militants attacked two brick kilns, fired indiscriminately on shops and business centres, besides triggering an explosion near a tea garden. "In all the incidents, the ULFA targeted people, most of them daily wage earners and petty traders," a senior police official said. "The death toll could mount as we have reports of some more people injured in remote areas," said Tinsukia district magistrate Absar Hazarika.

At least six passengers were feared dead and sixty-three other received injuries in a blast that was triggered inside a bus bound for Giriulla from Nittambuwa in the Gampaha district on January 5, according to Sri Lanka Army (SLA) reports. The blast, believed to have been caused by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres could have been triggered using an explosive device that might have been placed inside the bus. Six of those passengers in the crowded bus died on the spot following the explosion. BBC Sinhala adds that curfew has been imposed in Attanagalle, Watupitiwala and Nittambuwa until 6 a.m. on January 6 (today). Defense Affairs spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, accused the outfit for the blast. It was clear that the LTTE was responsible "considering their past track record", Rambukwella told BBC Sinhala. However, the outfit has denied any involvement in the incident.

Ten persons are reported to have been wounded in three minor explosions at a rally of the Jamaat-e-Islami at Nowshera in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on January 9. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad was addressing the rally which was organised in protest against the Bajaur Agency's by-elections at the Shobra Chowk when the blasts occurred in quick succession, according to Dawn. Eyewitnesses said three people were injured in the first blast and seven in the subsequent stampede. Gas leaking from the manhole caused the explosions, said police while ruling out any terrorist activity. However, the Jamaat-e-Islami has put the blame on the government and intelligent agencies.

The shells have hit the complex — one was a cluster bomb and killed three people.” The Military denied hitting the hospital. “We have not fired at the hospital premises in Vakarai today,” said Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe, adding, “We only have multibarrel rockets and artillery. We don’t have any cluster bombs.”

On February 18 midnight, 66 persons, including some Pakistani nationals, were killed and 13 others injured in explosions in two coaches of the Delhi-Attari special train at Diwana near Panipat in Haryana, reports Press Trust of India. Northern Railway General Manager, V. N. One of the suitcases had incendiary material, either petrol or kerosene, which could have set the train afire, he said. The bi-weekly train, connecting India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express, had left Delhi at 10:40 pm for Attari near Amritsar and two of its bogies caught fire immediately after the explosions. The train runs non-stop from Delhi to Attari, where passengers are shifted to the Samjhauta Express, which goes to Lahore after customs and immigration clearances.
