The victims were reportedly young Tamils from the area, about 250km north-east of capital Colombo. A policeman told AFP that officials were investigating whether the Tamil youths had been transporting explosives. Military officials, however, said the explosion occurred when suspected Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres tried to throw a hand grenade at a group of soldiers in Trincomalee. The first explosion was reported from the Baglung Bus Park at Ward No 2 of Pokhara Sub-Metropolis injuring a civilian, identified as Raju Sunar. Another explosion occurred at the residence of Armed Police Force DSP, Lal Bahadur Adhikari, destroying the ground floor of the building. Most of the people of Kahan are reported to have left the town. According to official sources, armed men fired at least 48 rockets from mountains targeting the Frontier Corps fort in Kahan. Most of the rockets exploded close to the fort and a few of them in the residential areas of the town. There might have been causalities as some rockets had hit residential areas, officials said.

The house of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in Dera Bugti was badly damaged in a rocket and mortar attack on February 6-night and a part of the house caught fire, according to Dawn. Official sources claimed that Nawab Bugti’s house caught fire because of blasts in an arms and ammunition depot. Heavy weapons were reportedly used in fighting between security forces and Bugti tribesmen on February 6-night and several rockets and mortar shells landed inside the house of Nawab Bugti. However, Nawab Bugti and his family members had left the house several days ago, while armed men guarding it left it after it caught fire. Security forces found three bodies about 50 yards away from the place. One of the dead was identified as Wadera Badal Bugti, a close aide to Nawab Bugti.
