Two ULFA terrorists––Diganta Sarania alias Basanta Das and Tilak Barua alias Pradip Das––were arrested from Amingaon railway colony, Guwahati, on December 28, for their alleged involvement in those attacks. A 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition were also reportedly recovered from their possession. Police also suspect that six other ULFA leaders–– identified as Naga Handique, Powel Kurmi, Subhas Sarma, Debi Chetri, Prakash Barua alias Ananta and Karuna Das alias Madhav––might be hiding in Guwahati or in the areas nearby and planning further terror attacks. According to police officials, ULFA might be using such attack as a tactic to divert the attention of the security forces and regroup for some major offensive, including large-scale extortion.
