Three militants belonging to Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Asom (MULTA), identified as Sabu Ali, Hashmat Ali and Hashimuddin Ali, were arrested by the Security Forces in the Malipara areas of Kamrup District, reports Sentinel. Two suspected National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Unification (NSCN-U) militants were arrested along with a Nagaland Police Constable by a team of Police and Army personnel on February 6 allegedly for arms smuggling. The trio Zhavito Yaputhomi (29), Tokihe Sema (30) and Constable G Avishe Sema (25) were arrested from near Lahorijan on NH-39 during a joint operation. Based on specific information, the Security Forces recovered two 7.65-mm US-made pistol, four 7.65-mm US-made pistol magazine and INR 51,027 from the arrested persons.

Sentinel reports that three top Assam-based Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leaders, who were arrested by Orissa Police on February 12 from Saranda forest, were on February 17 taken on transit remand by the Assam Police for further interrogation. Police sources said that a team of Assam Police and Intelligence Bureau visited Rourkela in Orissa and found some vital clues linking their activities with the United Liberation Front of Assom (ULFA). Rourkela Police had arrested Aditya Borah and two of his aides – Trithraj Orang and Asik Sabar alias Ajaya – besides seizing arms, explosives and Maoist literatures. During interrogation by local Police, the Maoists revealed that they were here to meet the Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kisanji on the direction of their Assam-based leader Dipak Ray.

A Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) cadre, identified as Andrew Terang, was killed in an encounter with the Security Forces at Samelangso under the Dokmoka Police Station area of Karbi Anglong District in Assam on March 5, reports The Hindu. A pistol, two magazines, a detonator and extortion demand notes were recovered from the possession of the slain militant. Six firearms, including that of AK series rifles, and a grenade were recovered from the bodies of the slain militants. An Army soldier was injured during the gunfight. The UDLA was formed by some breakaway leaders and cadres of the United Liberation Front of Barak Valley (ULFBV), a militant outfit that laid down arms and returned to the mainstream in 2008. The UDLA is headed by Dhaniram Reang and has approximately 50-60 cadres, who mostly operate in the tri-junction of Assam, Mizoram and Tripura.
