A self styled ‘platoon commander’ and a cadre of the I.K. Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-IKS), identified as Danial Muchahary and Rahen Muchahary were arrested after an encounter with a joint team comprising the Police and the Army from Lawdangi area under Dhekiajuli Police station in Sonitpur District on January 2, reports The Sentinel. Police recovered one 7.65 pistol, three round live cartridges, three mobile phones along with six SIM cards from the militants. Police sources said that Danial was the self styled ‘platoon commander’ of NDFB –IKS of ‘38 battalion’ of the outfit.

one person, identified as Rajiv Rajkhowa was arrested by Pengaree Police following a public chastisement at Dwarmara village in Pengaree in Tinsukia District on January 3, reports The Sentinel. The arrested person, Rajiv Rajkhowa, shot a local Village Defence Party (VDP) member, identified as Umesh Rai, at his residence who narrowly escaped death. Then he was caught by the son of the victim with the help of the villagers and later handed him over to Pengaree Police. Local sources said that Rajiv Rajkhowa had served an extortion letter to Rai last year in the name of the ULFA-I. The Police recovered two handmade revolvers and a writing pad belonging to the ULFA from the arrestee.

One 9mm Pistol, one magazine and 4 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the arrestee. The Chirang District Superintendent of Police (SP) Shankar Raimedhi said that the militant was a trained NDFB-IKS cadre of 38th batch and after training he had been operating in Baksa District. Security Forces (SFs) on January 22 killed two unidentified militants involved in an ambush which claimed the lives of two Assam Rifles troopers at 12th Mile Barabasti along National Highway (NH)-315 near Jagun village in Tinsukia District, reports The Telegraph. Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lieutenant Colonel Suneet Newton, said that bodies of two militants had been recovered along with five Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs), two grenades, a G3 rifle, a pistol and fired cases of nine lathode. Huge cache comprising two G3 rifles, one 303 Rifle (factory made), one 7.62 mm pistol (factory made), one single barrel gun (factory made), 10 kg explosive, 40 detonators, 66 live rounds and other war-like stores were recovered. The arrested militants were identified as Badhu Bey (38), Pop Yedoh (42), Polin Nongrom (53), Besterwen Hanse and Donboik Marbanean (28). A source said a team of Meghalaya Police is expected to arrive in West Karbi Anglong shortly to interrogate the militants, adds The Telegraph.

Chirang district police busted an IK Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-IKS) on December 4, reports Sentinel Assam. Chirang Superintendent of Police, said that on the basis of secret information about the movement of militants under the command of Batha in Ballambari Bagan Forest area near Indo-Bhutan border located at about 35 km north-west from Runikhata Police Station, a search operation was launched by Chirang Police. On sighting the police party, the militants opened fire. The police party also opened retaliatory fire, as a result of which one unidentified suspected militant sustained bullet injuries. He was shifted to hospital for treatment where he was declared as brought dead. Police later recovered one 9 mm pistol, one magazine, 5 rounds 9 mm live ammunition, s, camp materials, ration items, utensils, clothes, wearing apparels, and medicines.
