One National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Khaplang (NSCN-K) militant was killed by his colleagues when he along with four others tried to escape from the outfit’s camp at Samjiuram under Jalukie sub-division in the Peren district on January 2, reports United News of India. Five militants, hailing from the Chanlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, were trying to escape from their camp when the other militants chased them and shot dead one of them. However, two of the fleeing cadres surrendered before the police at Jalukie, one of them managed to escape and the other was captured by the NSCN-K militants. Police later recovered the slain militant’s body as well as empty shells of SBBL and AK rifles.

Police arrested a top leader of the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA), identified as Rupen Lakra, at Baghjan in the Bokajan town of Karbi Anglong district on January 8-night and recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives. Lakra is second only to commander Nirmal Tirki alias David, in the ranks of the outfit. He is also responsible for the bomb blast in the Rajdhani Express in Golaghat district on December 13 that killed four persons. The police later found a sten gun, three AK-47 rifles, an M16 rifle, two .315 rifle, two US-made carbines, a grenade launcher, four bombs, three rifle grenades, six hand grenades and a large amount of ammunition and assorted weapons in a nearby paddy field.

Rupen Lakra, the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA) leader, who was arrested by the police on January 8-night, has reportedly admitted that the cache of arms and ammunition that was dug up from a paddy field after his arrest came from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM). Lakra told interrogators that the ANLA ‘commander-in-chief’ David Tirkey struck the arms deal a few months ago when he was in Dimapur in the guise of a pastor. Three Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) militants were shot dead by the security forces in an operation on February 22 in the Kamalabhati village under Howraghat Police Station in the Karbi Anglong district, according to Telegraph. The militants were reportedly taking shelter in a hut abandoned by farmers in the forest area. Seven other militants were also arrested from the hut. The slain militants have been identified as KLNLF area commander Mekrang Terong, Jarsom Terang and Son Millik. The arrested militants have revealed that they had taken shelter in the hut with the aim of extorting money from the businessmen and tea estate management along the Nagaon- Karbi Anglong border. Two AK-56 rifles, four single barrel guns, 177 rounds of ammunition of assorted weapons were recovered at the site of the encounter.

They confessed that they were operating under the command of one Sana Macha of the KYKL. The security force (SF) personnel killed two militants, suspected to be either from the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) or the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDBF), during an exchange of fire at Silikhaguri Sapori under Narayanpur police station in the North Lakhimpur district. An injured militant escaped with his AK-47 rifle, while a pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a revolver with four rounds were recovered from the slain militants, the sources said. In a separate encounter in the Karbi Anglong district, an NDFB militant was killed by the SF personnel. A group of three NDFB militants involved in extortion had gone to collect the money when SF personnel stopped them, but they managed to escape after opening fire. The SFs chased the militants and in an encounter at Panbari area under Diphu police station, killed one of them. However, the two others managed to escape. The SFs seized a .32 bore revolver and five cartridges, a hand grenade and a mobile set from the slain militant.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with nine rounds of ammunition and a pistol from their possession. The DGP stated that Robert was a "corporal" in the KYKL ranks, but had never been arrested. An arrested KYKL cadre, Laishram Homen alias Korou, is suspected to be one of those who planned the selective killings. The DGP also said the police were on the trail of four more KYKL members who killed five migrants in Imphal East district the day after the Heiyen Hangool attack. Four SBBL shot guns, two AK-56 assault rifles and 33 rounds of live ammunition, a country-made .22 revolver, two Chinese-made hand grenades and two sets of Japanese-made wireless handsets, three torches, a mobile handset and two authorisation letters for extortion were recovered from the encounter site. According to police sources, the HNLC and NLFT ran a joint camp at Wahlymbong for about two months to extort money from coal traders and businessmen of Jaintia Hills. The encounter took place when police personnel raided a militant hideout in Umkiang area following the arrest of 6 HNLC militants, including an 'area commander’ Syrpailin Mawlong alias Bhalang, and a courier Riskin Phawa, during a search operation in Malidor area and Umkiang village on March 26. Ten rounds of live ammunition of 12 bore pistols, seven rounds of 12 bore fired cases, eight live and five spent rounds of ammunition of AK-47 rifles, 18 live and seven spent rounds of .22 pistols, two blank detonators, 500 grams of explosive, one improvised explosive device (IED), wires, one 7.62-mm magazine of LMG and one rotating block of AK-56 were seized from the camp. A Global Positioning System device, a digital diary, two blank extortion notes signed by the ‘commandant of 709 battalion’ of the ULFA, Hira Saraniya, a Chinese camera, 20 kilograms of rice and one kilogram of Bengal gram were also recovered.

Tayep Ali, from the militants’ captivity when they neutralised a major hideout of the group after a brief encounter at Wakhurok under Patsoi Police station on May 26, reports Imphal Free Press. While 16 other militants managed to escape, one 9-mm pistol, camouflage uniforms, jungle boots, hats, caps, utensils, and gun pouches were recovered from the hideout. Two women sympathisers, identified as Sanjenbam Indira and her younger sister Pratima, were also arrested while they were sharing information with the escaped cadres of the outfit. The report added that Tayep was abducted by the KCP militants on May 22 and was later tortured for allegedly smuggling drugs. He was asked to pay INR 10 00000 for his release and later the leaders of the outfit took INR 3 00000 from his wife in the Senapati district on May 24.
