Two unidentified militants of Ranjan Daimary fraction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) shot dead a relative of a pro-talks ‘commander’ in Sonitpur District in the night of January 2, according to Telegraph. Police said two militants, armed with AK-47 rifles, came to the house of Udai Mushahari, the brother of NDFB ‘commander’ M. Failou, at Silapur village in the Balijuri area under Sootea Police Station in Sonitpur District along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border around 10 pm (IST) and enquired about him from a member of his family. “When Udai came out to see who was looking for him, the assailants sprayed bullets, killing him on the spot,” a Police official said. The militants managed to escape soon after killing Udai. The Police later recovered eight empty cartridges of an AK-47 rifle from the site. Sources said Udai was on the hit list of the Daimary faction as he was suspected to be a Police informer.

A combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles on January 9 arrested two People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres, who were involved in the January 6 bomb attack at the residence of Manipur Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband. They were identified as Moirangthem Monao alias Parimacha alias Mohen alias Sana (26) and Laikhuram Munal Singh alias Santahoi (24). One loaded 9-mm pistol, one magazine of AK-47 rifles with three live rounds and one two wheeler vehicle and one cellular phone were recovered from their possession. They reveled during their interrogation that they were operating under one R.K. Jemson alias Rozar alias Ramananda alias Nongpoknagnba (32) of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda. The Meghalaya Police on January 11 foiled an attempt by a group of seven persons, led by two surrendered National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) cadres, to abduct a trader for ransom in capital Shillong, reports Sentinel. According to Police sources, the abduction plan was hatched in Assam in the last week of December 2009. The Police managed to lure two members of the gang into the Polo Parking lot before arresting the duo. They were identified as Khwanta Daimary and Bipul Narzary, and both of them were surrendered NDFB cadres. On the basis of confessional statements given by the arrested duo, the Police raided a house at Pynthorumkhrah in Bangladesh Colony, resulting in the arrest of two others who were identified as Malthus Daimary and Bijoy Sujunary. One locally made weapon, six rounds of live ammunition and an NDFB extortion note were recovered from the house. Two other members of the gang, Nickson Khang and Gopal Roy, were later arrested from a motor workshop in Polo area. The Police also arrested one R.S. Sumero who was supposed to drive the car carrying the abducted trader. Meanwhile, two of the arrestees were suspected by the Meghalaya Police to be cadres belonging to anti-talk faction of the NDFB.

Due to internal rivalry and tensions, Vanlalfela left the BNLF in 2005 and became a cadre of the Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram (BLFM). He, along with 20 other BLFM cadres, refused to surrender when 802 strong cadres of the BLFM surrendered in 2006, the Mizoram Police said. Chisurai joined the BLFM in 2006. A United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) cadre was shot dead and another cadre arrested when the Security Forces (SFs) neutralised a hideout at Chachinat village in East Garo Hills District on February 25, according to Telegraph. The slain cadre was identified as self-styled ‘sergeant’ Bidyut Kalita of the ‘109th battalion’ of the ULFA. Two AK-81 assault rifles, 129 live rounds of ammunition, one Dragonov sniper rifle with 76 bullets, one kilogram of RDX explosives and a wireless set, one voltmeter and extortion notes were recovered from the hideout. The ‘109th battalion’ is entrusted with mainly logistical work, like guiding ULFA militants to and from Bangladesh through Garo Hills, which borders the neighbouring country and Assam. The Police said the villages along the border areas of East Garo Hills have become a safe hideout for ULFA militants. The anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) also uses the tract.

He confessed that he along with two of his accomplices, identified as Moyothung and Akhuve Angami, had captured two persons, identified as Kughato Zhimo and Tsacho Sangtam, on April 20 for their alleged involvement in extortion related activities. The duo, he said, were taken towards Patkai college area, where they were assaulted, and that while on their way to Hebron camp, the NSCN-IM ‘council headquarters’, they were arrested by the troops.
