Four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a ‘militia commander’ carrying a cash reward, surrendered before Police in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on April 13, reports The Print. The surrendered Maoists were identified as Muchaki Dewa ‘militia commander’, Muchaki Joga ‘militia deputy commander’, Muchaki Hunga ‘militia’ member and Somaru ‘militia’ member, said a Police officer, adding that Dewa was carrying a bounty of INR 100,000 on his head. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Bhadradri Kothagudem East Godavari division member, identified as Sodi Rama (17), resident of Chennapuram village of Cherla Mandal (administrative division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana, surrendered to the District Police and was handed over to his parents on April 14, reports Telangana Today. Giving details of the 17-year-old Maoist, Superintendent of Police (SP), Vineeth G informed that the minor had served as a Maoist ‘militia’ (peoples army of the Maoists) member from 2020 to 2022 and for the past one year working as a gunman for Bhadradri Kothagudem-Alluri Sitarama Raju (BK-ASR) division committee ‘secretary’ Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azad. Sodi’s surrender was an outcome of the District Police initiative, ‘Operation Cheyutha’, wherein a counselling was conducted recently at Cherla Police Station for the family members of Maoists working underground asking them to join the mainstream life.

According to reports, four ULFA-I cadres - Mintu Moran alias ‘private’ Madan Assam, Palash Moran, Mahanta Baruah alias Arindam Assam and Simanshu Bhuyan alias Ranju Asom - had escaped from the camp of ULFA -I. Earlier, SATP reported the surrender of ‘private’ Madan Asom alias Mintu Moran on April 8 in Tinsukia District in Assam. Thirty-four cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) including four INR 100,000 rewardees have surrendered themselves in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on February 15, reports The Print. “Of the total, 33 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] surrendered in a recently established camp in the Dubbamarka area located in the deeply forested regions of Sukma, the surrendered Naxals included Dirdo Muda, Hidma, and Vajaam Hidma who carried a reward of Rs one lakh on their heads. These Naxals who were earlier misled decided to abjure violence and return to the mainstream” CRPF said. The efforts of the 201 CoBRA [Commando Battalion for Resolute Action] Battalion of the CRPF persuade the surrender of another INR 100,000 rewardee Maoist, identified as Madvi Vaga, in Sukma. However, seven members of the outfit continued to be involved in insurgent activities and formed the Easter Naga National Council (ENNC), which was later renamed as ENNO. Madavi and Vadde, both residents of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, surrendered in front of the Superintendent of Police (SP) just ahead of the Naxalites' 'martyrs’ week', which is marked between July 28 and August 3 to pay tribute to fallen ultras, a Police official said. Madavi was recruited as a member of Pamed Local Guerrilla Squad (LGS) in July 2014 and worked until 2021. He was transferred to the Zone Action Team in January 2021 and left the Dalam (armed squad) in June 2023 to return home. He was involved in eight encounters, five murders, and two arson cases. Vadde was recruited as a member of the ‘Jan militia’ (people’s army of the Maoists) with Jatpur Dalam in 2012 and worked there until 2023, after which he left the Dalam and returned home. He was involved in six murders and one arson case. In 2022, he was involved in the burning of 12 tractors and earth-moving equipment deployed for road work in Mauja Irapnar. Adama carried a reward of INR 600,000 on his head, while the bounty was INR 200,000 for Vadde, the official said.

The surrendered Maoist cadres have been identified as Killo Trinad alias Rajesh (35) and Killo Babu Rao alias Sutti (49), both hailing from the Italanka village of Chitrakonda in Odisha. The ‘militia’ members are Killo Raju (28), Vantala Bhagat Ram (33) and Pangi Sadhuno (50) of the Pappuluru Dalam (armed squad), hailing from various villages of Chitrakonda in Odisha. Both the Maoists joined the outfit in 2008 with the encouragement of Parvathi, then Dalam ‘commander’ of the Pappuluru Area Maoist Party. Within a year, they became party members and took part in many crimes reported from Kalimela, Pappuluru, and the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) region, which included two exchanges of fire incidents. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Sunnam Neela alias Soni (30) and Madivi Bhudu (25), surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) Tuhin Sinha at Yetapaka Police Station in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) District of Andhra Pradesh on September 1, reports The Hindu. A native of Bijapur District in Chhattisgarh, Neela was an Area Committee Member (ACM) of Chatgaon under the North Gadchiroli Division Committee and had an INR 400,000 reward on her head, while Bhudu was a member of the 2nd company of the 3rd platoon of the 1st battalion of the CPI-Maoist under the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee and carried a reward of INR 100,000. While Neela had been with the party for the last 18 years, Bhudu had been in the Dalam (armed squad) for the last eight years.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Kunjam Mukka, carrying an INR 100,000 reward on his head and who was allegedly involved in the 2017 ambush in which 12 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed, surrendered before the Security Forces (SFs) in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on September 12, reports NDTV. Kunjam turned himself in, citing disappointment with the "inhuman" and "hollow" Maoist ideology, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Chavan said, adding that he was the ‘militia’ commander of the outlawed organisation and carried a reward of INR 100,000 on his head. Among the surrendered Maoists, Kosru alias Kohla Alami, a resident of Orchha under Parlanar Police Station in Narayanpur District, carrying a reward of INR 100,000, was identified as the ‘President’ of Kusmeli ‘Jantana Sarkar’ (the people's government of the Maoists). Others included Badru Alami, ‘Vice President’ of Kusmeli ‘Jantana Sarkar’, Vijja Madvi, ‘Vice President’ of Jiyakonda Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangathan (DAKMS), Madke Kawasi, and Hadme Mandavi, Jiyakodata Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sanghathan (KAMS) members. Kumeti carried a cash reward of INR 1.6 million on his head, while his wife Halami carried a bounty of INR 300,000. Kumeti had joined the Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] movement in 1999, and after undergoing training at Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh, he served as the bodyguard of ‘special zone committee member’ Shekar alias Sayyanna. He was the ‘deputy commander’ of Keshkal and Kondagaon (in Chhattisgarh), Korchi, Khobramendha (in Gadchiroli of Maharashtra), and Deori Dalam (armed squad) in Gondia before becoming the ‘commander’ of Deori Dalam of Maoists. Six offences, including the exchange of fire and arson, were registered against him. Kumeti`s wife, Halami, had joined the Naxal movement in 2001 and became a member of the Khobramendha Dalam. She underwent training in north Bastar and Balaghat. She worked in Korchi, Khobramendha, Charbhatti, and Deori Dalams and was also active with 'Platoon-A'. A total of eight offences are registered against her.

On September 9, two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Mangu Nuppo and Hadma Nuppo, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) Anjaneya Varshney in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh, reports etvbharat.com. Police said that Mangu Nuppo had joined ‘Bal Sangham’, the children's wing of the Maoists, in 2009 and became a part of the CPI-Maoist organisation. In 2011, he became a part of the supply core of the Maoists and used to collect rice and pulses. He also started the work of mobilising the villagers to recruit them into the Maoist team. A warrant is pending against Mangu. The second Maoist, Hadma has been associated with the CPI-Maoist organisation since 2016. He was earlier also a member of ‘Bal Sangham’, and later on he became a member of Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), the cultural wing of the Maoists, in 2019. Both Mangu and Hadma, troubled by the Maoist ideology of discriminatory behaviour and harassment, decided to leave path of violence.
