According to official sources, after the attack the Naxalites forced police personnel to surrender. They were assaulted and their arms and other belongings looted. Naxalites also set afire the police station building and jeeps and destroyed communication equipment and other valuable items. They also fired at the Aurangabad district police chief and his convoy heading towards the spot. Besides, they looted 14 rifles, a stengun and live cartridges. The attack is believed to be in retaliation to the alleged killings of five Naxalites in Mirzapur village in Uttar Pradesh in April. The MCC had reportedly vowed to take revenge and pamphlets were distributed in and around Aurangabad last month. After the attack the Naxalites reportedly shouted that they had taken the revenge of Mirzapur.

Pakistani media reports have indicated that at least two restaurants owned by an American fast food outlet were ransacked and damaged, while two cars belonging to local bodies representatives were set on fire, and over two dozens other cars were damaged during the day-long clashes in Karachi. Most of the demonstrations and protests were held after the Friday prayers, when people came out of mosques chanting slogans against the US-led attacks on Afghanistan as well as against the government for extending support to the US. The Pakistan Afghanistan Defence Council (PADC), composed of 35 religious parties, had given the call for the strike. The police who raided houses of at least a dozen politico-religious leaders overnight arrested at least six religious leaders including Maulana Asad Thanvi and Maulana Mohammad Hussain Mahanti. Reports from Nepal said on November 1 that the a contingent of 50 troops from the Royal Nepalese Army has been deployed in Betini village, near Nuwakot, after the Maoist insurgents indulged in arson at the house of the local people’s representative, Harishchandra Tamang. Some 70 armed-insurgents demolished Tamang’s two-storey house, while he was away at the capital Katmandu. The incident was in apparent retribution for the slaying by the village residents of a person ‘nominated’ by the insurgents as the vice-chairman of the local people’s committee, a parallel body of the official committee.

Responding to a call given by religious parties and the Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Council conglomerate, several thousand took part in the countrywide general strike to protest the US air strikes on Afghanistan and the support to the US by the military regime of President Musharraf. At least three people were killed and several others injured in a clash between protesters and security forces near Dera Ghazi Khan on the eve of general strike. Protesters stopped a train near Shahdan Lond Railway Station, 45km away from Dera City. Police reached the spot while reinforcements were rushed in. In the events that unfolded, three people were killed in firing by the security forces. An angry mob subsequently indulged in an arson spree causing widespread damage. Besides, they had also taken hostage four policemen. Reports of protest were reported from several other parts of Pakistan.
