A suspected Tehreeke Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant, involved in the attack on a Levies Thana in Zhob District, was killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces on January 1, reports Dawn. Official sources said that a group of armed militants attacked the Levies Thana in Murgha Kibzai area of Zhob District and ransacked it before setting it on fire. The attackers were fleeing when FC troops reached there and opened fire on them. In the heavy exchange of fire, one attacker died. “The man killed belongs to TTP,” an FC spokesman said. After the incident, he said, a search operation was carried out in the Saman area of Kahan in Kohlu District and huge quantity of arms and ammunition was seized. The arms seized included antitank and antipersonnel mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). However, no arrest was reported.

A group of about 20 armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres attacked a road construction company's camp site at Motipur in Muzaffarpur District of Bihar a little after January 10 midnight and burnt nine heavy vehicles and machineries worth about INR 30 million, reports The Times of India. Giving details of the attack, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranjeet Kumar Mishra said Vaishali-Muzaffarpur sub-zonal committee of the CPI-Maoist has taken the responsibility of the attack through four handbills left on the site. The Maoists alleged the attack was made to punish the agency for ignoring some directions issued to it sometime back. But the agency failed to inform the Police about any such direction, the SSP said.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres retaliated to the killing of one of its senior leaders Sharath and a militia member near Korukonda shandy on October 19, 2014, after it killed a native of Veeravaram village Sanjeeva Rao, by destroying an ashram of Sanjeeva Rao’s spiritual guru Simhachalam at Gurramveedhi village in G. Madugula mandal administrative unit on January 17 night, reports The Hindu. During the October, 2014 incident Sanjeeva Rao’s guru Simhachalam escaped from being tried at a ‘praja court’ while the Maoists were attacked. The Maoists had also beaten up six persons in the Ashram and burnt down furniture and other material and a shed and some vehicles. An earth-moving equipment engaged in laying a nearby road was also set on fire. The Korukonda local area committee was responsible for the incident. Along with some Maoists, a large number of militia members and sympathisers allegedly participated in the incident. They reportedly left pamphlets and hung a banner saying that the Ashram was attacked in retaliation to the killing of Sharat and the militia member and that Simhachalam would not be spared.

All official documents were gutted in the explosion and the roof of the office blown off. The Maoists left a written warning that no villager should work for any forest department programme such as plantation, protection monitoring etc. “Around 50-60 Naxals (left Wing Extremism, LWE) came at midnight, took two of the cylinders in our stock to the range office and ignited a blast. All documents were gutted in the fire,” said a senior forest official. “Naxals have warned the villagers not to work for us in any manner,” he added. The Decchli range office was burnt by the Naxals in a similar fashion in 2011-12.

The protest in the District entered into the ninth day on August 17, against the proposed new federal set-up where Jumla would be inducted in Far-western region. Six people were injured in Police baton-charge when the protestors defied curfew order and took out a rally at old Buspark area and burnt tyres. Police also fired three shots in the air to disperse the agitators. However, the protestors are trying to march ahead to Khalanga bazaar despite Police warnings. In the meantime, the Jumla District Administration Office (DAO) issued a shooting order against anyone defying the curfew. The DAO issued a public notice urging everyone to remain indoors.

Curfew has been enforced in Tikapur area following the clash and Nepal Army (NA) personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident in the area. "We took the decision to mobilize army personnel following a decision by the Security Committee," said CDO Shrestha. Tikapur area was declared prohibited zone following violent protests by Tharuhat activists for the past several days. Around 20,000 Tharuhat activists had arrived in Tikapur from various parts of the District to put up signboards of Autonomous Tharuhat in government offices and organize a protest rally. UDMF has enforced indefinite strike to protest the draft Constitution and seven-province federal model proposed by the three major parties. Superintendent of Police (SP) Dibesh Lohani at Parsa District Police Office said Dilip Chaurasiya (28), a Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal (FSF-N) cadre from Parsa’s Maniyari Village Development Committee (VDC), was shot in the chest during a clash that broke out near Parsa District Development Committee (DDC). Chaurasiya was rushed to Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Police had to open fire after the protesters defied curfew and staged demonstration. Clashes erupted between the bandh enforcers and Police personnel at several places in Birgunj. Four agitators, including an eight-year-old child, were injured in Police firing. Eight other demonstrators were hurt in Police baton-charge, while six Police personnel sustained injuries after protesters pelted them with stones. After the situation went out of control, Parsa District Administration Office (DAO) imposed an indefinite curfew in Birgunj from 4 pm on August 31. Agitators also set ablaze Police posts at Birgunj’s Gandak, Ranighat and Ashokbatika. They also set ablaze Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) party office in Parsa. The clashes started from Birgunj’s Nagawachowk when demonstrators hurled stones at the Police personnel. To bring the situation under control, Police fired dozen rounds of tear gas shells and fired in the air to disperse protesters. Protesters vandalised vehicles, offices of Land Survey, Nepal Telecom, DDC, Irrigation and a statue of late Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. A clash also broke out between the agitators and Police at Bara’s Kalaiya. Police had to open three rounds of fire to disperse the mob. More than half a dozen demonstrators, including FSF-N General Secretary Ramsahay Yadav were injured. Agitators set ablaze old building of Rautahat DDC. Rautahat CDO Madan Bhujel said vital documents and files, as well as furniture, were damaged in arson. Firefighters and Security Force personnel doused the fire at the old DDC building. In addition, protesters vandalised a microbus heading to Kathmandu from Rajbiraj for defying bandh at Rupani of Raypur VDC in Saptari District. Police intervened when the protesters tried to set ablaze the microbus. Police said passengers on the vehicle were safe. Three protesters in Jaleshwar of Mahottari District and one in Bhardaha of Saptari District were killed in Police firings on September 9, reports Myrepublica.com. Roshan Chaudhary of Jaleshwar Municipality-7, Rambibek Yadav of Mahottari Village Development Committee (VDC)-5 and Amit Kapar of Jaleshwar Municipality-14 were killed in Mahottari District. The three were admitted to Jaleshwar Hospital where they breathed their last, according to Dr Satish Sah. Likewise, Ram Kisun Raut (60), of Portaha VDC-1, Saptari was also killed in Police firing. He had sustained bullet injuries to the chest and later succumbed to his injuries. Among 50 others injured during the clash with Police in Mahottari, three have been airlifted to the capital from Janakpur Zonal Hospital. The three seriously injured are receiving treatment at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu, according to doctors. The clash had ensured after locals and cadres of the agitating United Madhesi Democratic Front (UDMF) who had gathered at Jaleshwar, District headquarters of Mahottari, pelted stones at the District Police office in the course of demonstrations, according to Police. Police baton-charged the demonstrators, lobbed over 60 tear gas shells and fired in the air to bring the situation under control. Following the clash, District Administration Office (DAO), Mahottari issued an indefinite prohibitory order in the Jaleshwar area effective from 4:30 p.m., on September 9, informed Chief District Officer (CDO) Dipak Kafle. As per the DAO, the violent situation was brought under control through heavy deployment of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel. To avert further violence, the DAO clamped an indefinite curfew in Jaleshwar area, CDO Kafle said. Similarly, in Saptari, the DAO clamped a curfew at Bhardaha from 2 p.m. on September 9, till 6 a.m., on September 10, informed CDO Birendra Kumar Yadav. Two demonstrators, Bijay Khidahari Yadav and Anil Thakur, sustained injuries from rubber bullets during the clash between Police and protesters. The situation in the District turned violent following the death of a local in Bhardaha. Local agitators set a traffic Police beat ablaze at local Kanchanpur.

D. Tirki said. The vehicle was heading towards Benoor from Narayanpur when about 12 armed Maoists stopped it near Bodra nullah. After forcing the the truck’s driver and helper to alight they burnt the vehicle, he said. While escaping from the spot after the offence, they allegedly took the helper along with them assuring the driver that they would release him after a few hours. The good-laden truck that was en route to Jitpur of Bara was set on fire at West Mahamadpur, 200 metres away from Methur Chok. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Pokharel of the District Police Office, Rautahat, informed that goods and parts of the truck that was gutted in the fire were worth around INR 100,000.
