The bus, introduced recently, was a very special attraction for commuters between Hyderabad and Guntur as it was an air-conditioned sleeper coach with 24 berths. In the same district, Naxalites of the PWG blasted the clinic of a registered medical practitioner at Dachepalli. Police sources said the Naxalites planted explosives and blasted the two- room clinic of K Nageswar Rao, suspecting him to be a police informer.

Suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorists attacked an oil storage depot and a gas pipeline in Assam’s Tinsukia district, on March 8. Reports said Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC’s) a five million-litre petrol tank at Digboi refinery caught fire in the explosion triggered by the terrorists. The fire could not have been controlled when reports last came in. Also, damage of property could not be immediately assessed. Another blast, again triggered by the ULFA terrorists damaged an Oil India Limited pipeline carrying gas from its Duliajan unit to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) power grid at Kathalguri. The pipeline was later repaired and gas supply was also restored. According to Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner (DC), B N Das rocket launchers might have been used in the attack. ULFA ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah reportedly called up the local media in Guwahati to claim responsibility for the attack. No injuries were reported in the twin blasts.

In Hazaribagh district, armed MCC Naxalites raided the Baralanga railway station located between Barkakana and Ramgarh section of South Eastern Railways and snapped the power connection. Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) blasted railway tracks at Harubeda station on the Muri-Barkakana section in Ranchi division on June 11, on the second day of their 48-hour Jharkhand bandh (general shutdown) called in protest against alleged police atrocities. Although no one was injured, the blast destroyed the east and west cabins and damaged about a metre of railway track. In another incident, Naxalites set fire to the engine of a goods train at Bendi, Latehar district. In Bokaro, a group of MCC Naxalites raided Dhania railway station and assaulted the station master and forced him out of his chamber before locking it up. They also laid out blocks on the rail track. The Naxalites also made abortive attacks on Barlanga and Rai railway stations in Ranchi district. Official sources said most of the trains were running late due to these incidents. The bandh affected dispatch work at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) though it had not affected production of coal, CCL sources said. Long distance bus services, particularly towards Ranchi, Chaibasa and Jamshedpur were affected during the bandh.

Approximately 70 Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC-Democratic) terrorists reportedly attacked the Dipucherra Dimasa village, abandoned by the villagers recently, and set ablaze at least 50 houses, they said. A police team from Joypur police station later encountered the HPC-D terrorists when they were about to escape, killing one of them while one Sub-Inspector of Police sustained injuries. However, rest of the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby forests. Security forces cordoned off the area and have launched a combing operation to arrest the terrorists and also prevent them from crossing over to other areas.
