On February 18 midnight, 66 persons, including some Pakistani nationals, were killed and 13 others injured in explosions in two coaches of the Delhi-Attari special train at Diwana near Panipat in Haryana, reports Press Trust of India. Northern Railway General Manager, V. N. Mathur, told that he suspected sabotage as two improvised explosive device (IED)-laden suitcases, one from the rail track and another from the train, were also recovered subsequent to the explosions. One of the suitcases had incendiary material, either petrol or kerosene, which could have set the train afire, he said. The bi-weekly train, connecting India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express, had left Delhi at 10:40 pm for Attari near Amritsar and two of its bogies caught fire immediately after the explosions. The train runs non-stop from Delhi to Attari, where passengers are shifted to the Samjhauta Express, which goes to Lahore after customs and immigration clearances.

Two rockets exploded in different areas of Quetta on March 22 night while the Quetta-Sibi train link was severed after insurgents blew up the main railway line, reports Dawn. The first rocket exploded on the roof of one of the studios of the Quetta station of Radio Pakistan at around 9:20 pm. Minutes later, another rocket hit the house that belongs to Tahir Mohammad Khan, a former federal minister and chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, near the Balochistan High Court building on the Ghalib Road. A senior official of the Radio Pakistan, Quetta, said that the blast did not affect radio transmissions, adding that all vital equipment and installations were safe. Rocket shrapnel damaged the boundary wall of the house besides damaging some electric supply lines, leading to sus-pension of power supply to the area. "It appears that a couple of 107mm rockets were fired from the western side of the provincial capital," a senior police official said. But the exact location could not be located.

Unidentified insurgents blew up an electricity tower in Mohmand Agency in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on March 22, Daily Times reported. Political administration officials said that the saboteurs destroyed an electricity tower near Pir Qilla, suspending power supply to Ghalanai and Lakrao grid stations. Unidentified miscreants had sabotaged some towers in November 2006. The government included some areas of the agency in Peshawar and Charsadda districts about eight years ago and the residents of these areas have been protesting against this move since then. The move also led to the formation of a Mohmand Resistance Movement (MRM), which has given a wheel-jam and shutter down strike call on March 29 to protest against the inclusion of tribal areas into settled ones. The MRM has been blamed for previous sabotages of electricity towers and Government officials have accused the organisation for this recent subversive activity. However, the MRM has denied involvement in this incident, saying that the administration was making false allegations against the organisation to foil its March 26 strike. The MRM demanded that 25 villages, which were part of the agency and later included in the settles areas, be re-included in the agency.

Six people were killed and 15 others, including four police personnel, were injured in clashes between security force (SF) personnel and Islamic militants in the Tank city of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on May 16, according to Dawn. According to witnesses, a rocket fired by the militants landed in the Rizwan Grain market of the city on Tank-Dera road, killing five civilians, including two brothers. Clashes in different parts of the city occurred for more than two hours and both sides used rockets and light cannons, causing collateral damage to bazaars and residential areas, residents said. Some unidentified people reportedly lobbed hand-grenades at district courts where SFs had set up checkpoints. The attack, however, did not hurt anyone. Later, the militants, armed with rockets and heavy machine-guns, moved into the town and started targeting the SFs. "The number of attackers was about 40 who challenged the security forces and went back to their area," an eye-witness said. People alleged that SFs fired on civilians instead of targeting militants who were seen roaming freely in the city.
