At least eight persons were killed and about 61 others injured in four explosions carried out by suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants on April 6, reports Times of India. Two of the injured persons succumbed to their injury on April 7 (today) raising the death toll to 10. The militants carried out three blasts and mounted a grenade attack within five hours, adds The Hindu. The Director General of Police, G.M. Srivastava, said seven people were killed and 56 injured in a powerful blast in a crowded market in Guwahati’s Maligaon area at around 2 pm (IST). In the blast, four of the dead, including a minor girl, have been identified. The explosion sparked a fire that set ablaze two cars and 20 motorcycles and spread to a three-storey building housing the area police station. While six people were killed at the blast site, one died of injuries after jumping from an adjacent building which had caught fire. The bomb is suspected to have been hidden in a car or a motorcycle parked adjacent to the North-East Frontier Railway headquarters. “This is the handiwork of ULFA boys ahead of the outfit’s Raising Day” Srivastava said, adding the militants used hi-tech explosives. A bomb was set off by unidentified militants in the Santipur area near Bokajan in Karbi Anglong District earlier in the day. Suspected ULFA militants also set off a bicycle bomb explosion at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur District later. Four people were injured, one of them seriously, in this incident. According to an unconfirmed report, he later died of his injuries. In addition, an unidentified militant lobbed a hand grenade at Mankachar Police station in Dhubri district, killing a Police driver and injuring another.

Two women were killed on April 19-night as militants blew up a house in Kalaya, headquarters of the Orakzai Agency, to punish a girl and a boy in an honour-related case. The Taliban militants had reportedly planted explosives in the house of the alleged paramour of the girl where she was also living. The boy had fled the area leaving behind the girl with his parents after the Taliban got involved in the case. The girl, who belongs to the Bezote area, sustained minor injuries in the blast. Locals told Dawn on April 20 that a Sunni girl had fled with a Shia man from the Bezote area to Kalaya in the lower Orakzai Agency during March 2009. This had infuriated the Taliban who asked the tribesmen to hand over both the girl and the man for "execution under tribal customs". The tribesmen had refused after which the Taliban kidnapped a man of the Kalaya tribe and started killing passengers passing through the area.

The Member of Parliament and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, S. K. Bwiswmuthiary, had a narrow escape when suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants tried to assassinate him in the Panijani forest area near Panbari village under Bogoribari Police Station in Kokrajhar District on April 24, according to Assam Tribune. His driver Suren Daimary and Personal Security Officer Munnaf Ali were killed on the spot while six others sustained injuries in the attack. Bwiswmuthiary, accompanied by a large number of BPF leaders and members, was proceeding towards Panbari where miscreants had set ablaze 11 houses of BPF supporters in the night of April 23, when the attackers, lying in wait in the area earlier, opened fire on them. Three vehicles that were part of Bwiswmuthiary’s convoy were also damaged in the attack. Later, talking to journalists Bwiswmuthiary alleged that the ‘pre-planned’ attack was the handiwork of NDFB militants, who were instigated by the Bodoland People’s Progressive Front (BPPF) candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, U. G. Brahma, and BPPF president Rabiram Narzaree. Clashes occurred in front of the Singha Durbar (Prime Minister’s office) after demonstrators defied propitiatory orders and tried to breach the Police cordon. Some demonstrators, including a Maoist Constituent Assembly member, were injured in the incident. Some journalists were also injured and the cameras of some photojournalists were damaged. Violence also erupted in Kavre as demonstrators attempted to forcefully enter the District Development office. At least four persons were injured. Maoists and Police clashed in many other Districts, including Bardiya, Darchula, Mahottari, Ramechhap, Ilaam, Morang, Darchula and Baitadi, among others. At least 50 people were injured in these clashes. Police fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators in Baitadi and Baridya Districts.
