Speaking to the media in New Delhi on September 4, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief P C Sharma said officers were trying their best to seek extradition of Kim Davy alias Niels Christian Nielsen. The CBI is India’s highest crime investigation agency. Davy is the prime accused in the Purulia Arms drop case. He said, if the CBI failed to secure his extradition, it would convince Danish authorities to try him in that country itself. "Kim Davy is one of the 11 most wanted criminals in the world today and there is a Red Corner warrant pending against him," Sharma said, and added "The CBI team will explain to the Danish authorities about his importance in cracking the entire conspiracy behind the case." He said a two-member team comprising senior officials of the CBI was currently in Denmark to explain to authorities there the ‘grave crime’ committed by the accused.

The Union government, on September 5, made it clear that lifting of the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) by Sri Lanka did not affect its own existing ban on the group. Speaking to media persons in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Nirupama Roa said, "… LTTE continues to be proscribed as a banned organisation" and added that the ban on the outfit in India pre-dated this restriction clamped by Sri Lanka. The Kashmir Committee (KC) and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), on September 8, called for a ‘structured dialogue’ among all parties concerned, including people across the borders, to create conditions conducive for a solution to the Kashmir issue. After a meeting in Delhi, a joint statement by the KC and the APHC said all parties must rise above their traditional positions, abandon extreme stands and show flexibility and realism to reach an acceptable, honourable and durable solution. APHC leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, while speaking to the media after the meeting, said, "The Hurriyat would continue with its poll boycott call as elections are a closed chapter for us. Elections in the past had failed to resolve the Kashmir issue''. Reacting to the KC’s decision to meet Pakistan's Kashmir Committee, he said, "It is indeed a step forward and the Hurriyat is also of the firm belief that besides government-to-government contact, there should be a people-to-people contact''.

On September 9, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said he would reaffirm India’s determination to counter terrorism across the globe in his talks with US President George Bush and other world leaders on the fringes of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) meeting. He was speaking in New Delhi before leaving for the United States (US). Vajpayee will address the UNGA on September 13. He said, "Our basic message is… democracies of the world can play a crucial role in countering terrorism together… In the present world situation, it is inevitable that the global war against terrorism and our own determined efforts against cross-border terrorism would figure in my various bilateral interruptions in New York." The Prime Minister dismissed reports mooting conversion of the Line of control (LoC), with Pakistan, to the International Border to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue saying, "I have also heard about it". He also rejected a proposal to allow the Ram Jethmalani-led Kashmir Committee (KC) to visit Pakistan to hold talks with leaders there.
