The proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) of Manipur has reportedly issued a diktat and threatened Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh president Chaoba Singh, also a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) to quit the party before February 15. Issuing a press release, the outfit declared Mr Chaoba Singh as its enemy and an ‘Indian secret agent’. The KYKL has also asked BJP to expel Mr Chaoba from the party within the given deadline of February 15 and also reportedly put its army units under Lalhaba Tengol led by its chief of army staff, ‘colonel’ K.Koireng on alert for any eventuality.

According to The Hindu, in press releases issued on April 1, the proscribed terrorist groups, Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup (KYKL) and Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), have asked the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ‘end’ election-related activities in Manipur. The KYKL has also owned up responsibility for the March 31-attempt on the life of the BJP vice-president Naorem Tombi. According to the KYKL, he was given the "death sentence" as he ignored the outfit’s warning to distance himself from the party president, Thounaojam Chaoba, who was given the "death sentence in absentia" for his alleged "inexcusable activities."

According to The Hindu, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president in Manipur, N. Tombi, and one of the general secretaries, Sarath Singh, has resigned from the party in view of the ‘ban’ on campaigning imposed by the proscribed outfit, the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Tombi's resignation came four days after the KYKL made a bid on his life on March 30. The outfit has also renewed its threat on State BJP president and sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Inner Manipur constituency, Thounajam Chaoba, demanding his ‘ouster’ from the party.

In a statement issued to the local press on April 16, the proscribed Manipur outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) set a 24-hour deadline from 6 am of April 17 for all Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members in the State to ‘surrender’ to them and warned of dire consequences if they failed to do so. The outfit also warned that in future anyone found associated with the BJP would be given ‘capital punishment’. It also claimed responsibility for the attack on the residences of Congress MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Radhakishore and the shooting on the leg of a BJP worker of Heirok, identified as Ningthoujam Angangjaoba, on April 13.
