The pro-talks faction of the United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) has reportedly threatened to take up arms again if the on-going talks between the UPDS and the Government failed to yield any result. Observing the sixth ‘foundation day’ in the forest area under Hamren subdivision in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam on March 23, the UPDS leadership blamed the State Government’s apathetic attitude towards the problems of the UPDS for the failure of the talks. Reiterating its demand for a separate State with Karbi Anglong and NC Hills districts, the UPDS leadership alleged that though the Central Government and the Union Home Ministry have asked the State Government to submit the charter of demands of the UPDS, it is yet to submit it till date.

The outfit in a statement warned the State Government and interested companies to keep their hands off from the ‘natural wealth’ of the Nagas. It warned "individuals, parties, companies and the state government not to initiate any move or allow ONGC to extract oil from ‘Nagalim’". "Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), the underground administration of the NSCN-IM, shall never allow such activities to take place without the consent of the Naga people," the statement, issued on April 29, said.

On April 30, two persons were killed and another injured in separate attacks by the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) terrorists at Nongpok Sekmai and Nungba under Yairipok police station in the Thoubal district. According to official sources, all the three persons were parents of PREPAK cadres who had surrendered on April 23. Claiming responsibility for the attacks, a PREPAK spokesperson told local media that the action was necessary to warn those cadres who wanted to surrender and disclose party secrets to the Government.
