The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) ‘chairman’, Arabinda Rajkhowa, in the outfit’s mouthpiece Freedom, reacting to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s announcement of a safe passage for the outfit’s cadres during the Bihu festivities said that the Union Government is playing a ‘dangerous game’ by “talking of peace and unleashing the armed forces on its unsuspecting cadre at the same time”. “We will not sit idle in anticipation of the start of talks,” he further said. Rajkhowa claimed that security forces were continuing operations against the ULFA in Arunachal Pradesh and several districts of Assam, including in Lakhimpur, Sadiya, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Morigaon and Goalpara.

Reports indicate that the militants are trying to infiltrate across the international border through Belcherra under Champahower police station in the West Tripura district. Cadres of the outfit reportedly have started a campaign against Republic Day in the interior parts of Khowai district. The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) has warned the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) not to harbour the NSCN-IM militants in Assam, according to Telegraph. In a statement, the NSCN-K 'chaplee kilonser' (finance minister) Kughalu Mulatonu said ULFA has been giving shelter to the NSCN-IM militants in areas along Assam’s border with Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. He also said the two outfits are even engaged in joint armed operations. "If ULFA does not immediately desist from such activities of betrayal, we will be forced to take action against them. We will evict them from our Myanmar camps," Mulatonu said.

On November 18, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) asked the sportspersons to stay away from the National Games, which is being organized in Assam in 2007. An e-mail by the outfit’s chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa to local media offices in Guwahati said that the National Games was being organised by “occupational forces” who are not serious about the resolution of the “Indo-Asom conflict”. According to Telegraph, the outfit said that considering the repressive measures adopted by the Indian government, the outfit would not allow the event to be organised in Assam.
