In the State, Army personnel destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device on the Bafliaz road in the Surankote area of Poonch district. Further in Poonch, the troops neutralised a terrorist hideout at Phagla Nursery in Surankote and recovered one AK-47 rifle, six magazines, 163 rounds of ammunition and one Kenwood radio set with an antenna. Another hideout was reportedly neutralised at Sarhuti in the Mendhar area and three hand grenades, 20 detonators and one antenna were recovered. However, no arrests were made from these hideouts.

On January 4, six persons, including four Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation employees, were arrested near Veltur village in the Mahabubnagar district while they were illegally transporting weapons to be delivered to left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The police seized an unspecified number of arms and ammunition, include 1000 cartridges, air rifles, pistols and a Taiwan-made GPS (global positioning system) set from them. According to district police chief, Vikram Singh Mann, the accused confessed that the ‘District Committee Secretary’ of CPI-Maoist, Sambashivudu, paid them Rupees 3 lakhs to buy arms and ammunition. They had close links with the Naxalite outfit and had been supplying arms and ammunition for the last four years, Singh added.

The troops neutralised a terrorist hideout at Bahrama Gala in the Surankote area of Poonch district and recovered two wireless sets, four grenades of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), one AK magazine, 42 rounds of ammunition, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 22 pencil cells, one injection syringe and a large quantity of medicines and eatables. Separately, in two search operations at Dhar Galoon and Barila in the same district, SFs recovered one AK rifle, four magazines, 248 rounds, two RPG bombs, 43 Pika ammunition, five Chinese grenades, five UBGL grenades, 51 mm HE and two hand grenades. In another search operation, they neutralised a terrorist hideout at Chandsuma in the Baramulla district and seized 12 kilograms of RDX, 82 hand grenades, 15 detonators, five stick grenades, 36 UGBL grenades, three mines, four rockets and 21 anti-personnel mines. While three of them were arrested from the Baruncherra area, two others were arrested from the Katlicherra Bazaar. However, the identity of the outfit to which they belonged was yet to be ascertained, said official sources. A gun and some other arms and ammunition were recovered from those arrested.

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel are reported to have shot dead three United National Liberation Front (UNLF) terrorists at the Kamalpur border area of Dhalai district in Tripura on February 20. While one civilian sustained injuries during the encounter, a UNLF cadre was arrested. According to Assam Tribune, an armed group of UNLF cadres entered Bagaicherri village in the Kamalpur border area from their Bangladesh hideout and abducted a person. In the consequent encounter with the BSF personnel, three terrorists were killed and one was arrested. The abducted civilian reportedly sustained injuries in the crossfire. BSF personnel also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one pistol along with magazines and a mobile set from the incident site.
