One cadre of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khole-Kitovi (NSCN-Khole-Kitovi) faction identified as Aloto Raju Peyu was reportedly abducted on July 1 around 6 pm from Zunheboto town and was later killed allegedly by NSCN-Khaplang cadres. The body was later found at Kawoto village. According to Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP) kilonser (minister) Akato Chophy, Aloto went to visit some relatives in Zunheboto when he was abducted and later shot dead. Meanwhile, NSCN-Khole-kitovi has condemned the killing on its functionary by “reckless NSCN (K) cadres” and said such cold blooded killings would not be tolerated at a time when the citizens were yearning for peace.

In a major development, the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) has announced its readiness to sit across the table with any group to sort out misunderstanding and to halt killings. Briefing newspersons after the closed-door Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) meeting held at Hotel Millennium in Kohima on July 2, NSCN-K ‘military representative ‘ Isak Sumi and others disclosed that the NSCN-K has also demanded that the outfit should be allowed to establish designated camp at Khutur under Tuensang District as approved by the Government of India in order to scale down tension besides allowing setting up of a sub-office in Dimapur for the purpose of efficient monitoring and implementation of ceasefire ground rules. Also after the meeting, the chairman of the CFSB, N George said the Government of India is not unfair or partial towards any group and insisted that the Government of India is looking ahead towards finding a solution to the vexed Naga issue. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) is doing its best and working towards this end, he said.

The Telegraph reports that taken by surprise with reports of Gayatri Projects Limited, Hyderabad, to withdraw from the State because of extortion demands, the Nagaland Government on July 4 said the matter was never brought to its notice. Not ruling out extortion threats by militants, minister for roads and bridges G. Kaito Aye said the threats were never brought to the notice of the Government by Gayatri Projects and that reports of withdrawing from Nagaland was unbecoming and unreasonable. The heroine seizure was made at Noklak in Tuensang District after some NSCN-IM members posing as prospective buyers ‘arrested’ the drug dealers. NSCN-IM sources also informed that the accused and offenders were let off after paying fine. A strict warning was also issued to them. NSCN-IM kilonser (minister) L David assured that the NSCN-IM would continue to check such illegal businesses in order to stamp out the menace of drug and alcohol abuse from the Naga soil.

AR troopers reportedly tried to photograph NSCN-IM’s cease-fire monitoring cell (CFMC) ‘convener’, Vikiye Sumi. Cease-Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) ,chairman, Major General (Retd) N. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent a fax addressed to the Nagaland chief secretary, seeking details of alleged nexus between a militant group and a liquor syndicate operating in the State. In a faxed message, the MHA official claimed that the ministry had “received” inputs regarding the nexus. According to the MHA’s fax marked ‘Secret’, it stated that the syndicate in Nagaland was “awarded contract” for supplying tax free liquor to paramilitary forces. According to the fax dated July 5, received on July 11, the MHA said it received inputs that the “last five contracts” were allotted by the Government of Nagaland to one M/s. Raddison and Ranisson Limited (Assam) which expired in March 2012. The faxed copy signed by C.M. Bhatia, under secretary (Northeast), MHA, stated that inputs received indicated that “fictitious societies” were being propped up by the syndicate “who finances” a particular militant faction “in lieu” of protection for the “illegal liquor trade”.
