Security Forces (SFs) arrested an individual identified as Jagdev Yadav alias Jato Yadav, accused in 16-year-old Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] case from Vishanpur village of Charkapathar Police Station in Jamui District of Bihar on June 1, reports Hindustan. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman were killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in the dense forest near Bhandarpal village in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on June 1, reports Free Press Journal. Based on information about the presence of CPI-Maoist cadres belonging to the North Kanker-Mainpur Division Coordination Committee in the jungles of Rajpur, Bhandarpal and Timnar villages along the Kondagaon-Kanker District border, the team of the Chhattisgarh Police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) carried out an anti- Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] operation leading to an encounter with CPI-Maoist cadres on June 1. After the encounter was over, the Police team searched the area and found two bodies of CPI-Maoist cadres, including a woman, clad in uniform. Police recovered one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), 303 rifle and three 12 bore rifles along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition and other materials from the site. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘sub-zonal commander’ identified as Uday Oraon was arrested by Police at Murhu-Karcha Chhapar Toli village under Pesrar Police Station in Lohardaga District of Jharkhand, reports Dainik Jagran on June 2. Uday Oraon belongs to Dalam (armed squad) of Ravindra Ganju, the regional ‘commander’ of CPI-Maoist, who carries a reward of INR 1.5 million over his head. The arrested CPI-Maoist sub-zonal commander, Uday Oraon is involved in killing of Munshi, road construction worker under Pesrar Police Station, kidnap and killing of a villager in Mungo in Serendag Police Station area, set ablaze of many vehicles and other Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] incidents. Intelligence officials along with Police teams have interrogated Uday separately and started work on the Naxal incidents. During the interrogation, Uday had provided information related to the CPI-Maoist outfit including planting series bombs in the forests of Lohardaga District. It has given important information to the Police about weapons, pressure bombs, cane bombs, landmines, Naxal squads. Uday Oraon has been wanted in dozens of cases in Lohardaga, Gumla and Latehar Districts of Jharkhand.

Police have identified Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman, who were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in the dense forest near Bhandarpal village in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on June 1 as Aasu Korcha (20), resident of South Bastar and Reena Naretti (27), wife of Ramesh Hupendi, reports Nai Dunia on June 2. Both these slain CPI-Maoist cadres were carrying a reward of INR 5, 00,000 each on their heads. Both the slain CPI-Maoist cadres were involved in the arson in Kusanmari area under Dhanora Police Station in March and several other Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] incidents in the area. The deceased women, Reena Naretti, who is from Tamoda village in Amabeda of Kanker District, have been involved in several CPI-Maoist incidents like spreading panic and working with Naxal outfits. More than half a dozen offences have been registered under sections of murder, attempt to murder, arson, including explosives, arms act, UAPA and IPC.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Communication ‘Chief’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh and senior leader of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), identified as Sobroi alias Gaddam Madhukar alias Mohan, carrying a reward of INR 800,000 over his head and one CPI-Maoist courier were arrested by Telangana Police on Peddammagadda Cross Road close to Mulugu Road in Warangal District of Telangana on June 2, reports Free Press Journal. Gaddam Madhukar and a courier were arrested during a vehicle-check by Police. Madhukar was suffering from Covid-19, had come to Warangal for the treatment with the help of the courier, a minor. Several cases against him were pending in the Police Stations of Bastar Division. Madhukar who hails from Kumaram Bheem Asifabad District in Telangana had joined the Sirpur Dalam (armed squad) of the then People’s War Group (PWG)) in 1999. The Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] outfit later shifted him to DKSZC and since then, he was involved in several offences including killing of Police personnel and snatching away their weapons. The CPI-Maoist courier went to Venkatapuram forest area in a car and was bringing Madhukar to Hanamkonda for admission in a hospital. When Police searched the vehicle at the check post, Madhukar was found hiding in the car’s boot. Police arrested both of them and seized INR 88,000 cash. Madhukar was later admitted to a hospital for treatment, said Warangal’s Commissioner of Police, Tarun Joshi. Madhukar informed to Police that a large number of senior Maoist cadres are suffering with COVID-19. But the CPI-Maoist is not allowing them to go outside for better treatment. The cadres in exceptional cases are allowed to go outside for getting better treatment, only after their health condition turns worse. Maoist leaders said found to be infected with Covid- 19 include Telangana State Committee Secretary Yapa Narayana alias Haribhushan alias Lakma, Telangana State Committee members Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, and Kankanala Raji Reddy alias Dharmanna alias Venkatesh, DKSZC members Katta Ramchandra Reddy alias Vikalp and Kunkati Venkataiah alias Vikas, DKSZC spokesperson Mula Devender Reddy alias Masa Dada, South Bastar Divisional Committee (DVC) Secretary, Muchaki Ungal alias Raghu alias Sudhakar, and other CPI-Maoist cadres Kodi Manjula, Pusam Padma and Kakarla Sunitha, added Tarun Joshi, reports The Hindu on June 2

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in a pamphlet have again strongly opposed the excavation work of the Surajgarh Iron Ore project and warned the workers involved in excavation work to be killed in Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra, reports Sakal on June 4. The letter of Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] was found at Surajangarh Iron Mineral Hill. In the past, CPI-Maoist cadres have set ablaze 83 vehicles in the area opposing this project.

Around 10-12 Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] have set ablaze one JCB and one tractor parked at a construction site of a bridge over Binja Nala at Lamkinand in Tokisood village of Patratu Police Station in Ramgarh District of Jharkhand on June 5, reports PrabhatKhabar. Two labourers identified as Raghunandan Prasad Mahato, a resident of Giridih District and Bhunesh Ram, a resident of Chauparan in Hazaribagh District were abused and injured by the Naxals and then fired in the air. Many labourers saved their lives by hiding in nearby forests. Naxals gave a pamphlet to a labourer identified as Munshi Lagnu Mahli to be handed over to their contracter. The engineers of the construction company said that no organization threatened them to stop work or seek levy. Police team conducted a search operation in the forests of Tokisood, Binja, and Chhapar in search of Naxals without much success after this incident.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) troopers were sent to the forest of Abujhmaad to carry out Operation Monsoon in the core area of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] before the monsoon rains start. During the Operation, after killing a Maoist in the encounter on Saturday (June 19) morning, the search operation was continued in the area by the soldiers, and in the afternoon again another encounter took place in the same area in which one more Maoist was killed. During the search operation, the dead body of two male Maoists cadre along with one .303 rifle, .315 bore rifles and other country-made weapons along with a huge amount of camping materials were recovered from the encounter spot. Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said, they turned themselves in before Police, saying they were impressed by the Police's rehabilitation drive 'Lon Varratu' and disappointed with the “hollow” Maoist ideology. Out of the three Maoists, Aayta Kohrami, who was active as a ‘militia commander’, was carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, while the two other cadres, identified as Uika Somdu (23) and Kartam Mahendra (22), were working as militia members. Mahendra was also wanted in connection with the murder of a person in Timmapuram village in 2018. SP, Pallava, said, “with this surrender, 375 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], including 99 carrying cash rewards on their heads, have so far quit violence in the district under the 'Lon Varratu' (term coined in local Gondi dialect for 'return to your home/village') campaign launched by police in June last year.” Under the initiative, the Dantewada Police have put posters and banners in the native villages of at least 1,600 Naxals, mostly carrying cash rewards, and appealed to them to return to the mainstream.

According to the new classification, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Arwal and East Champaran have been cleared from the list of Naxal-affected Districts. Now only 10 Districts of Bihar, namely Rohtas, Kaimur, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Aurangabad, Banka, Munger and West Champaran are in the category of Naxal-affected Districts.
