The session's judge acquitted Sameer after the prosecution failed to prove the charges against him. The Special Investigation Cell (SIC) probing the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case had brought Sameer from Mumbai (Maharashtra) to Hyderabad on June 6, 2007, on a prisoner's transit (PT) warrant for interrogation. Later the Central Crime Station (CCS) Police also booked him for cheating to obtain a passport from the passport office in Hyderabad

Army foiled a major infiltration bid and killed five militants on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara District in the night of July 9, reports Daily Excelsior. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kupwara based 28 Division of the Army, Major General Lalit Pandey told that eight to nine militants were moving in the forest area about 500 meters inside Indian territory near the LoC. He said that the militants were immediately engaged by firing from the post located along the fence and it resulted in the elimination of five militants, while the remaining flew towards the LoC under the cover of thick foliage. He said that the group of militants belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and had crossed the LoC during the day and were intending to cross the fence under the cover of darkness. The GOC said that there are 350 militants waiting on the launching pads on the other side of the LoC in Tangdhar, Keran, Macchil and Gurez sectors. He said that troops on the LoC are alert to foil any infiltration attempt.

Concerned over reports of the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency-backed attempts by the Harkat-ul-Jihad (HuJI) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfits to recruit the ‘Rohingyas’ to avenge the ongoing communal strife in Myanmar, intelligence agencies of India have issued an alert, New India Express reports on July 10. “Since 2012, several thousand ‘Rohingyas’ illegally entered the Indian territory through Bangladesh and are staying at several cities demanding refugee status. Given the fact that the LeT and HuJI called for revenge in Myanmar, there could be serious security implications for India,” sources said. “An alert was issued to Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Assam, Hyderabad, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (UP) to remain vigilant in the aftermath of the Mahabodhi Temple attack. Similar alerts were issued to all the border states to prevent illegal immigration,” an official said.

Security and Intelligence agencies on July 11 revealed that Lashkar-e-Toiba’s (LeT) Border Action Team (BAT), which has been revived by the militant outfit sometime back, was most likely responsible for planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and landmines in Kanga Gali area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Sawjian sector of Poonch District on July 8 in which one civilian porter was killed and five persons, including three porters and two Army soldiers, were injured, reports Daily Excelsior. Army sources said, “It hardly matters for us whether the BAT has been revived or not. We are maintaining a high alert on the LoC. Whether the IEDs or mine are planted by the LeT or any other outfit or the BAT, we are committed to thwart their plot.” Meanwhile, Army's Northern Command Headquarters has floated tenders for the purchase of six Border Surveillance Management Systems (BSMS) for deployment in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Kashmir Times. "A surveillance system is required which can cater to Indian Army's peacetime requirements, both during day and night," said the Request for Proposal (RFP) document released by Northern Command's First Field Ordnance Depot. The move comes in the light of increased attempts at infiltration across the LoC in J&K in recent months.

The trial of the Kashmir recruitment case, a case in which Keralite youths were taken to terrorist camp for training, has entered its final stage at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court, reports New Indian Express. The court has heard the statements of 160 witnesses in the case. There are 22 accused in the case, including suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) ‘commander’ Thadiyantavide Nazeer. “The trial of the case has almost been completed and the court will pronounce the order after a few sittings. The NIA has filed chargesheet against 24 persons, including four Keralites, in connection with the case. The witnesses also include family members of the killed youths. Muhammad Sabir and Wali, the main link between the LeT and the Keralites, are absconding,” NIA officials said. Four youths from Kerala - Fayas, Abdul Rahim, Mohammed Yasin and Fayis - suspected to be involved in the case were killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs). The youths, who were recruited in 2006, were given arms training to wage war against India.

Security agencies fighting against the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) have to take on a deadly mix of the underworld, various terrorist networks and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s intelligence agency, who are using new routes to pump fake currency into India, The Times of India reports on July 15. Sources in the Mumbai Police said the involvement of the underworld has been established on a number of occasions, and distribution of fake currency is controlled by Dawood Ibrahim's aide, Aftab Batki alias Sultan. Sources also said FICN get printed at a press set up by ISI at Sukkur (Sukkur District in Sindh) a border town in Pakistan. ISI has been using Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and other splinter groups to smuggle fake currency. Moreover, the growing number of FICN seized in Mumbai (Maharashtra) during the last four years indicates a growing menace, Hindustan Times reports on July 15. From INR 62,00,000 in 2009, FICN worth INR 88,00,000 was seized in 2012. And till June 2013, INR 40,00,000 has been seized. In a bid to make the laws more stringent, officials of the Mumbai Police said the union government has made amendments in the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) 1967, and now production or smuggling or circulation of fake currency has been declared a ‘terrorist act’.

Sources in the Intelligence Agencies said that within two months of Nawaz Sharif's election as Pakistan's new Prime Minister, its Army, along with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and several militants outfits, including Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), have started creating trouble on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch Districts, reports The Hindustan Times. Sources in the Intelligence Agencies added Pakistan's Army wants to give message to the Government regarding maintaining its superiority over the civil administration by fomenting trouble near the LoC. Major General SK Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC), infantry division, said it is too early to comment on Pakistan's relation with its Army. But he agreed that the army, involved in machination with the militant outfits, has often been targeting the Indian troops. "There is no doubt that Pak commanders and the local militants are plotting against us," said the GOC. According to the intelligence agencies, LeT and HM have jointly decided to send the latter's force in Jammu and Kashmir, as they have huge support in the state. Sources said LeT militants along with the local intruders are also targeting the Indian soldiers, posts and civilians.

Two absconding operatives of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), who represent two of the home-grown terror outfit's deadliest known modules, were 'certainly' behind the Bodh Gaya blasts, claimed Delhi Police special cell, on July 15, reports Hindustan Times. Waqas alias Ahmed from the Maharashtra module and Asadullah Akhtar Haddi alias Tabrez from the Uttar Pradesh module have been evading arrest well before they allegedly planted bombs during the Mumbai serial blasts in July 2010. The men then executed a similar, though unsuccessful bid at Pune in August 2012 and another bid in Delhi last year before they allegedly struck in Bodh Gaya instead, according to highly-placed sources. "These men, who have received training at Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) camps in Pakistan, according to Syed Maqbool, one of the men arrested for the Pune serial blasts, are the only remaining IM bombers," said a senior officer. While Haddi, who was allegedly involved in the Batla House encounter of 2008 has been on the run, Waqas was part of the infamous Aurangabad Arms Haul of 2006. “We have reached this conclusion after analysing undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) recovered from Mumbai, Pune and Bodh Gaya. All had similar markings near their circuits”, senior officer added.

Working on specific information, the Anantnag Police assisted by CRPF’s 40 Battalion and Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) intercepted a vehicle on the highway on July 16. “Mohammad Hussain Wani, a resident of Khushipora Dialgam, was arrested during the operation,” said the spokesman. During questioning, the Police said, Wani admitted possessing two AK 47 rifles. “He admitted possessing the weapons for the purpose of extortion and also to carry out some militant acts,” said the spokesman. On Wani’s disclosures, the Anantnag Police arrested three of his associates ---- Mohammad Rafiq Wani, Imtiyaz Ahmad Banday and Bashir Ahmad Wani, all residents of south Kashmir. The police investigations revealed that Wani and Banday were “planning to execute a firing incident on the National Highway between Qazigund and Mirbazar”, 60 kilometres south of Srinagar. The Police said militant Nawaz Ahmad Ahanger, a close associate of the slain LeT ‘commander’ Ashraf Sheikh alias Molvi of Rampora and Moosa alias Qari Banihal, was behind the designs to disturb normal life on the crucial national highway. “This whole module was being organized and handled by Ahanger. Ahanger and Mohammad Younis Bhat had arranged the weapons in 2010 to deliver it to Moosa. However, because of the killing of Ashraf Sheikh alias Molvi they could not execute their plans,” said the Police spokesman. On the instances of the arrested militants, two AK 47 riffles, two magazines and 43 rounds were recovered from the agricultural fields of Bashir Ahmad Wani.

The Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) is busy opening another front along Bangladesh-Myanmar border, The Times of India reported on July 21. Inputs with Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India's external intelligence agency, confirm that LeT and its front Jama’at-ud-Da’awa (JuD), are working to extend their footprint along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border by riding piggyback on the sectarian violence targeted against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Rakhine state. While JuD ‘chief’ Hafiz Muhammad Saeed is leading the anti-Myanmar campaign, espousing the cause of Rohingyas from various public platforms in Pakistan, his terror subordinates have been planning and undertaking visits to the Bangladesh-Myanmar border region. Apart from creating a new forum, Difa-e-Musalman Arakan (Defence of Muslims in Myanmar), in mid-2012 to mobilize support for an anti-Myanmar government campaign, LeT/JuD had deputed a two-member team — comprising JuD ‘spokesperson’ Nadeem Awan and JuD ‘Publications Wing’ member Shahid Mahmood Rehmatullah — in August 2012 to forge covert links with like-minded Islamic organizations in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
