Unified CPN-Maoist Vice-Chairman, Mohan Baidya alias Kiran, said that the High-Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) has got the power to change the Government, according to Kantipuronline. The mechanism comprising of the top leaders from the major three parties are capable enough to logically conclude the ongoing peace and constitution drafting process and it has also got the guts to change the Government, he added. Baidya’s statement came at a time when some leaders from the incumbent coalition have questioned HLPM and its activities saying that the mechanism was concentrating more on changing the Government rather than defusing the political deadlock. However, Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar challenged the very statement of Baidya when he said that the HLPM holds no legal rights to change the Government.

The release of 268 disqualified People’s Liberation Army (PLA) combatants from the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist’s (Unified CPN-Maoist) Fifth Division Cantonment in Rolpa District on February 8 brought one month of rigorous discharge process to an end, reports Himalayan Times. During the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN)-monitored verification, a total of 452 combatants were rendered disqualified. However, only 268 of them showed up in the discharge ceremony on February 8, the rest leaving their camps in advance. ”The Maoists would deem the discharge as a victory, a move taken to cooperate with the ongoing peace process”, said the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda in his speech during the concluding ceremony.
