The UCPN-Maoist cadres threatened a former child soldier who spoke about her involvement and experience in the Maoist Army at United Nations Security Council in June 2010. Four cadres from a Maoist cantonment in Shaktikhor came to Sita Tamang's house and told her and her family that 'anything might happen to them. Terrified from the threat, Tamang called up local journalists and human rights workers to inform about the intimidation. According to the statement she gave at the UNSC last month, she was forcibly recruited to the Maoist army at the age of 13. At present Tamang studies at grade nine in a local school.

Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda told leaders of other political parties at the meeting of 25 political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly on July 6 that his party would present a plan for integration at a meeting of the task-force of the three parties formed earlier to work out the points of consensus.

According to Nepal News, in a last-ditch effort to forge understanding to end the current political deadlock ailing the country, the top leaders of the three major parties - Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) - have agreed to give themselves five more days to form a "national consensus government". A meeting between the top leaders of the three parties - Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC Vice-Chairman and Paraliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal - at the parliamentary secretariat, Singha Durbar on July 7 (today) reached to a decision to this effect. The leaders decided to formally request President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to extend the July 7 deadline he had set for the formation of the consensus government by five more days.

A senior Unified CPN-Maoist leader dismissed the conditions put forth by the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML that they would support the Maoists to lead a consensus Government only after there is an agreement on the number of their combatants to be integrated into the security agencies. "Where does the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) mention about fixing the number of combatants? This is something that will be stated in the programmes and policies of the new government," said Maoist standing committee member Dev Gurung adding, "We won't accept conditions that do not match with the CPA."

Maoist Chairman Dahal garnered 241 votes in his favour, and 113 votes were cast against him while 218 lawmakers stayed away from the voting.
