He said that we have started talks with the Government for the resolution of the issues. Our party’s internal meetings will take place only after the resolution of issues with the Government. Shrestha said the issues include dues to be paid to the martyrs’ kin and to those hurt during the people’s war, besides the finalisation of proportional representation in the government.

According to leaders close to Unified Communist Party of Nepal–Maoist (UCPN-M) ‘Chairman’ Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda, Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai could become the prime ministerial candidate of the party if he meets certain pre-conditions put forth by Party Chairman, reports Kantipuronline. Prachanda, according to his confidants, asked Bhattarai not to indulge in factionalism and support him in the party. His new offer comes at a time when Bhattarai is making alliance with another Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya on some organisational issues to end Dahal’s monopoly in the party.

Nepal News reports that during a meeting with European Union (EU) Ambassadors on September 12, Prime Minister (PM) Baburam Bhattarai told the EU envoys that the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M) has handed over keys of arms containers to Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) in a major breakthrough in peace process and regrouping of the Maoist combatants would start soon on the basis of political consensus. The CPN-UML leaders reiterated that the Maoist decision to reshuffle their ministerial team was not acceptable as it would create an atmosphere of distrust among the parties. The Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M) has warned to withdraw its support to the Government if Prime Minister (PM) Jhala Nath Khanal fails to reshuffle the Maoist ministers as per the decision of its Central Committee meeting, reports Kantipuronline. A meeting of Maoist office bearers on July 29 also decided to call the party's Standing Committee meeting to discuss the issue. PM Khanal and his party are against administering oath to new members stating that it would be against the five-point deal signed on May 29. However, Khanal has assured that he would swear in nine full ministers in the first phase.
