This comes even as the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is on course to "triple'' its force-levels to around 200 ships and 100 aircraft by 2018 to effectively tackle piracy and the terror threat emanating from sea, among other operational tasks. Recently, intensive patrolling by Navy and Coast Guard under "Operation Island Watch'' led to the sinking of Prantalay, a hijacked Thai trawler being used as "a mother vessel'' by Somali pirates, after a hot chase off the Lakshadweep Islands on the night of January 28. The 15 pirates arrested in the operation were brought to Mumbai for further legal proceedings.
