Besides, a Tamil youth was taken into custody in Kotte, Welikada, for helping the LTTE rebels to build bunkers. The state-run Daily News claimed on July 14 that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was facing a severe manpower crisis and the LTTE’s problems were further complicated because ‘a large number of them were refusing to man bunkers’ in the wake of attacks by government troops. ________________________________________ On the political front, the government decided to conduct further discussions with Tamil political parties on the devolution proposals’ draft agreed upon between itself and the opposition United National Party.
